The Eastern Way

The Eastern Way (GHDS M3) is a primary hyperlane in the Milky Way that serves as a major east-west connector. Its traditional start is the Sol System, from which it extents east to the galactic rim, passing several major planets such as Nuggia, New Moscow, Kansokoro, Playa Grande, and Kordea.

Route Description

The traditional definition of the Eastern Way starts at the sol system. It then travels along the Orion Spur until it reaches the eastern end at Playa Grande. From there, it dips south in between the galactic arms. It then passes through New Moscow, and briefly follows the Perseus arm before dipping into intergalactic space where a hyperspace break occurs at Nuggia. After the reinsertion pointit travels east and along the outer arm before it stops.

History

Discovery

The eastern way was one of the first hyperlanes discovered by humanity. It was discovered by United Mapping Service Drone 12793 on September 15th, 2234.

Mapping

The Eastern Way was largely mapped by sending drones along its length until they were ejected from hyperspace and the finding the reinsertion point, and repeating that process until the drones could no longer find a reinsertion point. This process also incidentally led to the discovery of a number of branches, many of which now make the core of the hyperlane network in the southern part of the galaxy.

Governance

The Hyperspace Exploration, Management, and Communication agency classifies the Eastern Route as a Galactic Hyperspace Designation System-Major (GHDS-M) route. The hyperlane is therefore governed by the Galactic Union. But, the galactic union generally works closely with local entities to enforce rules and regulations in the hyperlane.

Hypercables

The Eastern Way is considered a Rank 1 Hyperspace cable route, and a major thoroughfare of information through the galaxy. The first cables were laid in 23rd century, with the initial segment connecting Sol to Playa Grande. The complete cabling of the hyperlane was finished January 29th 2438. The present cables are designed to transmit 70Pbps.
