Alkenstar

Founded in a dead magic zone between the Arcturian Empire and the Dirmandian Lands, the vassal state considers itself independent of the two nations. While technically a vassal state to the Arcturian Empire, Alkenstar operates with a high level of autonomy under the conditions that Alkenstar provides the Arcturian Empire with Drachian Crystals and with weapons during times of war. In return, the Arcturian Empire provides materials that are not available in the Mana Wastes.

Culture

The state has a vast culture composed mostly of refugees from both nations, due to the low Arcturian Empire presence in the nation those wanted in the empire for lesser crimes come to Alkenstar to find a new life. The blending of cultures and the belief in individuals rights has caused the Alkenstarian motto to be "Within Every Person, A Kingdom."

Public Agenda

The wants of the state are that its people maintain self autonomy, they also seek to dominate the world market on Drachian Crystals by only allowing so many to be exported in order to build up demand.

History

Alkenstar was founded by a human slave with no name who escaped a Drow clan in the Dirmandian Lands, using the anti-magic wastes to escape the magic eyes of his captor he took refuge in the desert ruins. From there he formed a refuge for others escaping a similar fate and eventually had a small settlement going. Old ruins of a lost technologically advanced civilization were found in a cave burrowed into the rock in the sand, while the magical components were long gone studying the machines propelled the nation forward and gave way within two generations to the defining technology of the region, the firearm. In the year 1127, the Arcturian Empire finally expanded to the edge of the Calcikious Mountains. When war seemed inevitable, the smaller nation of Alkenstar surrendered to become a vassal state under the conditions that the Arcturian Empire recognize it as a sovereign nation free to self govern and that the Arcturian Military may keep no more than one battalion within the small nation.

Trade & Transport

The Lightning Rails cannot function in the dead magic zone meaning that the nation is fairly isolated from the rest of the empire. The main way into the jagged landscape is by a skybridge that was constructed 2000 years before the Discidium that connects to the main road between the Arcturian Empire and Dirmandian Lands. Most travelers use desert mammals such as camels or hybrid horses to make trips through their lands.
