Orthellian

The Shield Against Shadow. Orthellian is the oldest fortress in all of Novaura - and the most storied. Built by the First Regent after the north fell to shadow it has been ever garrisoned by the bravest of souls ready to give their life to be the shield of the world. The horrors that lay beyond the gate have not broken the guard here even once.
Its success is in no small part to its multi layered defense. High walls run from east to west completely dividing Esgoth from the Lands Fallen. The first gate opens through to a killing field of boiling oils and holes large enough to push spears through. Once an invader gets to the first courtyard they're met by an even higher inner wall with similar defenses with high watchtowers at regular intervals set with ballista and terraces for archers. This first courtyard is as far as any force has ever made it before it was repelled.
Though it is considered an honor to serve the Regent orders regular rotations every fortnight so that soldiers may spend time with their families back home. The guard here will frequently put a point to the end of any conversation to one another with the saying "Orthellian stands".
