Gray Giants

The Solunites are the descendants of Solun and Sira, the youngest of the Giantkin. Broad, gray and strong they are masters of stone and have built some of the greatest architectural wonders the world has ever known.

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Ecology and Habitats

Stone Giants, per their name, prefer stony places and especially mountains for their homes. Here they dig quarries and build homes and fortresses out of the stone of the land and adorn them with fine sculpted decor. Some also paint these homes and decorations to give them vivid color.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Solunites are predominantly omnivores. They keep domesticated food animals like sheep, pigs and cattle as well as hunt game. They don't tend to eat bread as much as rice which they grow on flooded teraces, alongside a wide variety of tubers, legumes, and roots, etc.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Stone Giants tend to prefer a caste system of social class, wherein citizens are members of a given caste that provides and important function in the life of the group. What those castes are changes on their location and needs.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Solunites are rare in that they initially migrated to a wide number of places. The Arronites went far south and east towards the Pillar of the Sun. The Sordisians went just as far north towards the Sordisian Vale and then further towards the Pillar of the North Wind. Meanwhile the Lundians travelled west to the Pillar of the West Wind. And the Irsaloni stayed close to the Sundered Mountains.

Average Intelligence

Solunites are just as intelligent as the other Kindred. Theirs is a slower, less impulsive kind of intelligence which often annoys the impatient. They are capable to make quick decisions, but they prefer to fully think out a problem and consider many options before executing a solution.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

It is said that some Stone Giants can sense what is near stone they touch. They can put their ear to the stone and sense that horsemen approach or that a storm is coming. Or they can lay a hand on a rock and sense who has passed or if ore is near at hand.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Many Solunites appreciate a muscular build, even on women. Both men and women often cut their forehead hair high, giving them a high, rounded forehead.

Courtship Ideals

Men and women must always court within their caste. If something should happen that a caste is dying off due to plague, war or something of the like, the other castes will sacrifice young members to the failing caste to bolster its numbers. This sacrificing is tended with much honor and ceremony.

Common Dress Code

Dress code varies among the Stone Giants but they tend to wear clothes of leather and linen, often very austere and plain but with some color in the details.

History

Stone Giants, as mentioned before, migrated to widely different locations during the first migrations after the Sundering.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Everywhere they are, Gray Giants are often in high demand by the peoples around them. They are master masons, sculptors and architects and many a bridge, fortress or city was built by them. As they are also makers of Heartstone, they can make incredibly strong and tall edifices.
