Athandar

Athandar is the de facto capital of the Kingdom of Athalar and the long-lost jewel of the west. Omrin Tanderis founded it as the seat of his power. Ever since then anyone who yearns to be king of Athalar seeks to hold this mighty city.

Demographics

Athandar is the largest city in Athalar. It's population is overwhelmingly made up of Athalene folk but there are also residents of old Corsair blood and Volgans and even folk from the mainland of Nov Matar, not to mention the occasional giant or dwarf.

Government

Athandar is the seat of the King of Athalar but the city itself is ruled by a Lord Mayor and a mayorial counsel. Its laws are those of the land with restrictions on bearing arms and armor inside the city, as well as special rules litigating trade in and out of the port.

Defences

Athandar has tall, strong walls both on land-side and sea-side. The sea-side wall sits behind the docks and houses an array of artillery pieces against attacking ships. In addition Athandar has a huge, multi-stage castle high on the northwestern hills. All this is protected by a highly-professional force of fighting men called the Cerulean Guard.

Industry & Trade

Most folk in Athandar are involved in trade. On the large scale, Athandar is a point whereby the vast food stores from the golden fields go out and money and valuables come in. It's the point where copper ore from the Copper Keys meets tin ore from Goleslan to be made into bronze.

Infrastructure

Athandar is home to wide variety of enterprizes. It's roads are predominantly cobbled with fairly large underground sewers. The port has a large breakwater protecting the harbor from the waves of the Dusken Sea.

Geography

Athandar sits in a highly defensible spot where two mountain ranges don't quite meet at the site of a workable harbor. It cannot be assaulted from many positions besides the sea and the land to the southwest. But even in the latter, one must cross through the causeway between the mountains to reach the city, which offers several valuable chokepoints.

Natural Resources

Athandar has an abundance of fish both from the sea itself as well as from nearby Osenyar Lake.
