History & Usage
Everyday use
Pride silk has become a favorite cloth for use on military ship sails, war banners, and other utilitarian applications, but has also gained popularity in affluent circles. High-end clothing made from pride silk is both fashionable and protective, leading many nobles and wealthy merchants to seek full outfits and formal gowns made with it.
Cultural Significance and Usage
Due to artificial scarcity and a highly controlled market, outfits made of the cloth are prohibitively expensive for most common folk and even some minor nobles.
Distribution
Trade & Market
While the silk worms that produce the silk itself are abundant, the Grand Emir controls the trade by owning all of the silk farms in the land and creating artificial scarcity by only releasing a small amount of raw silk once a year at the Mazad, an auction where prepackaged parcels are sold off. While the exact price fluctuates, the average is usually 1 yard costs roughly 100 gp.
Storage
Harvested Silk is stored at the highly guarded Kinz Alharir until the Mazad.
Law & Regulation
Stealing raw silk from the Mazad is seen as an act of treason.
