Overview

Easting is situated east of Iriaebor (hence it’s name) along the Traders Road. It is a unwalled town community with about 40 buildings in the town proper. It is similar to villages of this size, with the exception of three things that set Easting apart.   1) Easting’s small size and location to the Far Hills make it an ideal spot for dwarven traders working out of the hidden delves in the Far Hills. Their smithy-work is above human average, and individuals wishing to contact dwarven craftsmen from the Far Hills usually start in Easting.   2) Easting is the home of Rulthaven the Sage, whose areas of expertise lies in the study of plants and their uses, including herbs and poisons. Rulthaven is known to be “true” neutral, and is known to be visited by both good folk, and representatives of Darkhold. 3) Easting is home to at least four noted horse-breeders, whose stables do a brisk trade in remounting travelers journey from the Sword Coast to the Inner Sea.

Population:

Small Town, population approximately 1,000, mostly human, with 2% dwarves. This population may swells to double in a good summer trading season, the extra population is generally made up of traders, merchants, and merchant caravans on an overnight stay in Easting.   Does not include nearby communities

Regular Forces:

The Easting Watch numbers around 60. Due to the close relationship with the dwarves, the regulars are equipped better than most towns standing town guard (chainmail, bucklers, long swords, light crossbows, daggers)

Militia:

In times of trouble, 100 members of the Easting population can be called upon to reinforce the Easting Watch. This does not include militia from local communities in a 3 mile radius, which can increase this amount by up to 400.   The merchants and costers moving through the city bring their own mercenary forces, which can be counted on in times of danger to defend the town.   Described: Page 41 AD&D Forgotten Realms Adventures
