King of Aelliria

Requirements

The title is inherited through male-only primogeniture, although Salic law does not apply (i.e. a son of a king's daughter can inherit the throne, but the daughter cannot).

Appointment

As soon after the death of the previous King as possible, the new king has a coronation to officially invest them with their title and duties.

Duties

The duties of the king are to rule Aelliria, including aiding the common people, fostering trade and commerce, keeping the peace or making war, leading the military in times of war, leading the people morally and in national matters, and overseeing the day-to-day and long-term operations of the kingdom

Benefits

The king enjoys absolute political power, as well as the highest social standing possible and vast wealth.

Accoutrements & Equipment

During the coronation ceremony, the King wears a ceremonial crown and cloak, and is given an ornate Orb and Scepter.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The king's power is absolute, so the only way to remove a king from his position is to assassinate him (or stage a coup, which has never happened so far, successfully at least).

Cultural Significance

The King of Aelliria is extremely well-respected both at home and abroad, although this can vary greatly depending on the man himself.
