The Padril Rebellion

Military: War

It is the nature of all empires to be constantly at war, either through expansion or contraction. These battles normally occur on far-off frontiers but sometimes they take place close to the core. Padril was a mining community in the Sondaran hinterland. Every year untold riches were hauled from the ground and carried away on waggons while the workers and their families were treated as little more than slaves. One day the miners in Padril decided they'd had enough and overran the local garrison, taking their weapons and distributing them among the surrounding villages. The rebellion spread fast and the empire was forced to react but rather than send a legion they employed four mercenary companies and sent them to padril under an imperial commander. The fighting was brutal and mostly one-sided with the mercenaries making short work of the ill-trained miners. Padril became a warning for any wishing to stand against the Sondaran Empire.
