The Overthrowing of Lianeous

The Conflict

Prelude

Lianeous, Goddess of Death and Disaster, was ruling over Northmarsh for many years, with everyone who lived in Northmarsh living in poverty. Lianeous had taxes raised beyond belief, with 85% of every person's income going to the state. She ruled over the entirety of Northmarsh and spent her days living in luxury, not leaving her home in Xarith, the Goddess appeared not to care about those 'beneath' her.     There had been much unrest leading to this battle, which began with an uprising amongst the population. Clerics teamed up with Wizards and Paladins, leading to the summoning of Bushena from the celestial planes.

Deployment

Bushena landed among the mortals in Hilford, a way from Xarith and in the spot of the initial uprising, where those in poverty were hit the hardest. She worked with the people of the lands to formulate a plan, which ended with Bushena realising she could not defeat the beasts Lianeous held to protect her and the knowledge that someone else would have to defeat them. Unfortunately the beasts were known to be under powerful magic cast by the Goddess herself that meant Celestials were unable to fight them and mortals may only fight alone.   In came Jyana Crosslinks, a devout worshiper of Bushena, she threw herself forward to defeat the beasts believing herself capable and able to survive the battle. She made her way to the tower Lianeous was ruling from and began the fight.

Battlefield

Xarith, capital country of the world of Northmarsh.

Conditions

The battle was hard fought in poor conditions, Lianeous had cast darkness across the country during the battle, aware it would make it harder for the mortals to fight. She caused undead creatures to rise and fight for her, and many slayed the mortals fighting for Bushena.

The Engagement

Jyana defeated each beast in tow until it came to the final one. Weakened by the fight with the previous beasts, Jyana knew at that point that in order to survive the battle she needed to leave, but to win she would die. Confident in her beliefs, she chose to remain, slaying the final beast and sacrificing herself for the good of the realm.   It was only then that Bushena was able to descend on the battlefield, the fighters battling against any and all that defended Lianeous' throne, and faced off against her sister.

Outcome

After many hours, along with significant bloodshed on the mortal fighting grounds, Bushena emerged victorious and banished Lianeous to the celestial planes once more.   Many died along with Jyana Crosslinks, but many more survived. Jyana was not to be found after the battle, and all that remained of her and the beasts she had slain was the Spear of Crosslinks.

Aftermath

Bushena began to rule over Northmarsh, with Xarith remaining the epicentre and capital of the realm, and she now rules kindly with the knowledge that any who dare to dispute her rule know of her battle and her fury.   After the battle, when the Spear of Crosslinks was found, it was beleived to have magical powers, as sensed by Bushena herself. Quickly top Paladins and Wizards from across the world flocked to the capital to uncover the secrets the spear held, however it quickly became clear that something more sinister was afoot.   The top Paladins and Wizards began dropping like flies, a quick cycle of delerium and wild magic overcoming them before their rapid death. Bushena ordered the cessation of all investigation but not before 80% of the Paladins and Wizards died. Unfortunately, those who had families and friends to return to before their passing quickly became infected and followed suit, and this disaster, thought to have been left by Lianeous herself before departing the mortal planes, was known to be the largest killer in history, decimating the population across the world in the year 524.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The first day of each week was renamed to Bushena when the people of the realm would pray to the divine being. Alongside this, on the 14th of Vrasp, the anniversary of Jyana slaying the beasts that guarded Lianeous, Crosslinks Day is held. On this day all of Northmarsh comes together to celebrate the life and death of Jyana Crosslinks. Parties are held in her honour and children spend the week leading up to it creating papier-mâché spears to replicate the one she used to slay the beasts which protected Lianeous in the Years of Dismay.   Stories have been written of the battle, with many focusing on the glory of Jyana Crosslinks and many more on Bushena and her banishment of her fellow celestial sister.
