Mortal Worship of Gods
Most of the peoples of the Known World worship multiple gods throughout the year, depending on their needs. Farmers will pray to a god of weather when they need rain (or want to lower flood waters), pray to a god of agriculture or nature at harvest, pray to a godess of motherhood when a child is due, etc. Most gods do not object to this practice today, though they did in the days before the God Wars.
However, some of nobility and renowned commoners adopt the fashion of declaring one god as their "patron". Although these people may still worship multiple gods for different purposes, they openly wear the colors and/or symbol of their patron deity. Additionally, they include their patron in the formal title, such as "Olaf, Wizard of ╠Hecate╣". In some social circles, it is expected that anyone who has attained great success, such as in war or business, declare a single god as their patron.
If someone in those social circles achieves great success, but does not wish to declare a patron deity, they sometimes declare the Red Moon as their patron instead. Although most people accept this as a desire for privacy in their deepest religious beliefs, others note that in some legends the Lich Queen is referred to as a "Sorceress of the Red Moon".
