Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Ruff and Tuff are connected together through a shared torso, They have the tails, wings, horns and claws of a Hideous Zippleback.
Special abilities
Fighting: Tuffnut and Ruffnut are almost equal in terms of strength and speed. They are both skilled in fighting, usually sparring violently with each other when they are arguing. Tuffnut has perhaps proven to be more effective than Ruffnut in combat and battle tactics.
Pain Tollerance: Tuffnut is shown to have an extremely high pain tolerance, perhaps the highest among the Dragon Riders. This can be seen when he has instructed others to attack him for his own amusement and appears to enjoy being hit at times. He has even been seen to take a rock to the head, only to end up laughing afterward as well as taking several swings from a mace to the head from Ruffnut, which he requested, and appear to recover very quickly. As a Thorston, Tuffnut has an extremely tough skull, which allows him to endure blows to his head.
Zippleback Gas Resistant: The twins are the only ones who are not affected by Barf's gas, which can cause disorientation and a sick feeling, possibly because they have gotten used to it over time.
Stealth and Survival Skills: While his sister beats him in conflict, he has superior survival and stealth skills. He was able to stake out on his own on Dragon Island and even managed to sneak up on and capture a Changewing.
Thievery: Ruff is also a very experienced thief and pickpocket. Following an attack on Berk she looted damaged homes with Tuff. However, Ruffnut was told to return the items when someone found out about them and complained about an ‘unknown theft’. She was also able to pickpocket by pretending to beg, such when she and the Dragon Riders were first captured by Ryker's Dragon Hunters. She was able to steal a piece of chicken and the keys from one of the Hunters.
Intelligence: Tuffnut and Ruffnut are unable to sit still and pay attention without fighting with each other, causing most of the other Vikings to doubt their abilities. Despite their inability to pay attention, they always knows how to make people or dragons angry, often proving helpful for them to act as a distraction or bait. Tuffnut has been shown to often have outbursts of intelligence and a smarter outlook on life, alongside Ruffnut, revealing that the twins are much more intelligent than they initially seem. She was able to fool Tuffnut by thinking they share the same pain. She also has a wider vocabulary than her brother, as she was shown in some instances that she knows some words that her brother doesn't.
Acting: Ruffnut is shown to be a good actress as she was able to distract a guard while she stole his key by putting on a theatrical act.
Trouble Making: The twins also have a strange ability — purposely or not — to get in trouble no matter where they are, even in an empty room. With the help of his sister, he pulls many pranks using yaks, as shown when they pranked Snotlout in believing that he was going to die. They also did some "yak-tipping". They even decided to turn their pranking skills into a profession.
Understanding Abstract Images: He and Ruffnut are shown to be experts at understanding abstract art. He was able to tell that a few drawings were puzzle pieces that created a map. He was also able to guess the abstract images Ruffnut was holding. Tuffnut is also able to speak "post-lightning Snotlout" — which is gibberish that Snotlout may speak after being struck by lightning — and is the only known Viking to speak it.
Acrobatics: Tuffnut has been shown to be fast enough to perform somersaults and flips in the air, often landing on his feet.
Officiant: Tuffnut was learning to become an officiant from his mentor but he never completed as his mentor fell off the cliff before his lessons were completed.
Head-Butt: Thanks to their long necks, Ruff and Tuff retract their heads then slam them into their opponents and they also use this to play "Bat the Nut," which is knocking their things back and forth while they dangle from ropes. They are also able to knock down a massive Eruptodon statue to slow down lava from destroying the Defenders of the Wing's village.
Strength: Ruff and Tuff are very strong, as they have been seen to be able to lift heavy objects with their claws and both claws can lift the weight of two heavy grown adult Vikings. They also have strong jaws but can hold back their full strength as they are also able to carry the Titan Wing Dramillion with little effort and without the aid of other dragons. They can also enhance their jaw strength by wrapping their necks together and using both jaws at the same time.
Gas and Spark: Ruff can breathe a large amount of green gas. This gas confuses and disorients people, except for them. Tuff can release an electric spark. When combined, they can make a large explosion depending on how much gas there is and how far it expanded. Their fire seems to burn on ice without melting it.
Speed and Agility: Ruff and Tuff have the speed of an average Zippleback, but they were also able to catch up with the Skrill, although the Skrill had been slowed down slightly. Ruff and Tuff are able to catch up to other dragons on both land and in flight, despite their short legs and wings. Despite claiming that Zipplebacks are bad fliers, they are surprisingly agile. They have a very flexible body, but they can tangle their neck by accident.
Stealth: Ruff lets out a green, thick gas, which they use to hide. From there, they sneak up on unexpected enemies or prey, attacking them.
Stone Carving: Ruff and Tuff have trained to gas and spark certain areas in rocks, carving faces, and other objects into rock walls.
Endurance and Stamina: Endurance and stamina, as was demonstrated several times shown to be good for their kind. They are shown to still get up after getting hit by the Skrill and Night Fury combination attack from falling at high speed on a sea stack to be able to fly well. Even got back on their feet from getting hit by Typhoomerang from a distance.
Apparel & Accessories
Tuffnut wears a dark brown, long, fur animal vest with a very light pale green tunic that goes past his hip. Around his waist, there's a brown sash. He also wears light grey-blue pants and dark brown furry boots. On his arms, he wears a long brown arm cloth armband that starts at his elbows and ends at his wrists. His helmet is studded and has four horns: the top two are bull-like, and the bottom two resemble ox horns. His long blond hair is unevenly divided in the middle and appears to in dreadlocks. He's relatively slim for a Viking and has tan skin with dark-blue eyes. His necklace's pendant is a large dragon claw or tooth.
Ruffnut wears a light brown, animal skin-like mini vest and a dark blue tunic that reaches just past her hips and ends in tatters. She wears a grayish-brown mini-skirt that also ends in tatters. Around her waist, she wears a metal-leather belt with a crest in the center. Ruffnut wears dark brown leggings and dark blue furry boots. On her arms, she wears long dark-gray cloth bracers that starts at her elbows and stops at the wrist. A bit of the cloth is laced between her first and second fingers. Ruffnut's helmet is studded with four horns, similar to her brother's, albeit the horns being longer and more slender: the top two are thinner bull-like horns while the two bottom horns are longer and curved. Her hair is evenly divided in slightly to the side and short bangs across the left side of her face. She has two small braids above her ears and three long braids that reach to her waist. Around her neck, Ruffnut wears a necklace with the pendant of a dragon tooth or claw. She's slim for a Viking and has tan skin, just like her brother, along with a pair of pale-blue eyes.
