Trade Languages

While they are not, properly speaking, languages in and of themselves, several 'trade tongues' have cropped up in the world. Pidjins of other languages, they are generally mutually intelligible, but not especially good at sharing higher order concepts or ideas.

Longtongue: This language is usually associated with the Mon'taar and Aneli. It developed as a pidjin of the most influential drakekin languages shortly after the Shockwaves and is one of the primary factors that allowed for early dominance of international trade by those communities.

Trade: Trade, also called Southern Trade, is spoken in most coastal areas. Originally a pidjin of Longtongue, Visavan and Epicentran, it has developed over the last few hundred years almost to the point of being a language in its own right. As nobody speaks it as their primary language, however, and it still lacks methods of conveying arcane principles, it remains a trade tongue.

Savisan: The trade tongue of inland Satara-Visava is mostly spoken by the few people who live within ten miles of the border. It has been supplanted somewhat by Elven, and has some minor status as a protected language.

Undercommon: Rarer than the other trade languages, Undercommon is spoken only by the Dhaerow, their slaves, and the handful of other peoples that make their homes in the Roots of the World.
