The Iritian Windrail

A train network suspended across the skies by pure force of Air magic, the Iritian Windrail prides itself on fast, long-distance, inter-archipelago travel.

After the Shattering, sea travel became completely nonviable, and the continents were completely separate and inaccessible from one another. The only ways to get across from archipelago to archipelago was via long flight, available only to sylphs or avians, or through the Abyss, which was much too dangerous at the time. However, innovative souls from Aeterna and the minor train companies across the world came together in order to set up reliable travel, and thus, the Iritian Windrail was created.

Taking inspiration from the ancient technologies of Irite Jungle's railcart system, the trains on the windrail are powered by active, rapid air flow and ride on tracks heavily imbued with Air magic. So far, efficient trains and tracks link the continents via major cities or coastal settlements.

Structure

The company is divided into three distinct divisions.

The first division, the smallest and highest ranking of the three, consists of the conductors who drive the whole operation. The train conductors handle the navigation and schedule of the air trains, usually only being one or two per train.

The second division, eponymously named "The Engine", are the mages responsible for the powering of the trains. By altering and generating airflow, they have complete control over a train's speed and power.

The final and technically lowest-ranking division is the ranking that most employees belong to. The division handles most of the work like sale and management of tickets, or maintenance of the trains.

Public Agenda

IW plans to exclusively stay as a rail network strung across the sky. The company has shown no interest in expanding downwards into the Abyss, likely due to the difficulty that comes with clearing out elemental aberrations.

Assets

Thanks to it effectively being a corporate conglomerate, the windrail has ready access to plenty of suppliers of material, money, and stations. In addition, the company has amassed a large amount of money and employees thanks to the popularity it has gained since its establishment.

The Trains

The passenger cars are always characterized by an exterior of polished brass and black lacquered panels, and are usually 54 feet in length. Three long, ornate windows made of wrought iron allow a view to the outside of the train. The interior is primarily wooden with brass detailing, having velvet cushions lining the sides.

The locomotives have the same black-iron-brass color scheme as the freight cars, albeit with much more iron. The train's boiler, however, is made of pure brass and bears the company's emblem. The car's interior is very spacious, accommodating the conductor and the six Air mages that power the train's wind engine.
