Rebellion of the Third Interstellar
The Rebellion of the Third Interstellar was an opportunistic conflict initiated after the sixth Tungan incursion heavily damaged naval bases. Militants rose up on multiple worlds, with the goal of forcing the Federation to reform and ending the economic hegemony of the Sparkworlds. The Rebellion was only as successful as it was because of diplomatic and military missteps by the Federation military. For example, miscommunications lead to fleets accidentally blockading worlds not in rebellion. Rebels were allowed to steal high-grade military equipment. There was also a large scale mutiny that gave the rebels access to professional fleets and naval officers.
The Rebellion of the Third Interstellar was by far the most successful uprising in Federation history. Even so, the Federation managed to grind the rebellion down in time. Rebels held out for peace talks that never came. In 2515, the last rebelling world New Oslo surrendered to the Federation, its leaders submitting themselves for execution so that the populace would be spared.
The Conflict
Outcome
One by one, Third Interstellar worlds surrendered and returned to compliance. Rebel leaders were executed. Laws were passed that reduced officer autonomy to prevent other large-scale mutinies.
Aftermath
Massive casualties and suffering caused by the war lead to a general loss of faith in the Federation. The psychic scars of the war lead directly to the Malaise and many still say the Federation is yet to fully recover.
