The land of Orleanas was annexed into the Aguilan Empire in 899 which saw many Aguilan settlers creating towns on the islands while Klockaland was mostly independent. The settlers did begin to venture into the swamps to mien for gold but were repelled as the Empire did not wish to fight the local people. After 1258 and the rebellion of Duke Ferdinand de Or due to his belief the Empire was trying to deny Orleanans any autonomy, the Duchy extended full control of Klockland and its resources. The Klocklanders still have pockets of resistance but have been forced into labor roles as peasants. The islands have become very wealthy which has ensured Orleanas' continued independence.
