Khilos'a

Khilos'a are a group of people living in the harsh swamp lands of Khilos. Their customs and culture is reminiscent of the ancient civilisation of Scotland. Their language is mostly derived from Scottish Gàidhlig, with the dominant spoken language being Common as it was put into law hundreds of years prior. They are mostly live in small tribal communities spread throughout Khilos, and keep to themselves. Resources are not abundant where they live, and unfortunately survival is their greatest priority.

Naming Traditions

Family names

"Family" names are based off the season which the child is born. Since the seasons are much more chaotic in Khilos, summer and winter are more prominent than the transitional seasons and so depending on which season you are born in is believed to affect your temperament.  Winter - Fuar (meaning cold) Summer - Blàth (meaning warm)

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Survival of the Smartest. This is a well known saying that is shared throughout the Khilos'a people. They have to be smart, they have to out-think to save their own lives as they live in a region that is full of creatures trying to kill and eat them.  Education is something that is highly valued within their communities, being a top priority for children to learn all that they can. Not only about survival, but about science and history and the cultures around the world.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Khilos'a people are viewed by the rest of Nithira as "creatures", due to where they live. But they have very strong customs when it comes to their own views on beauty. Most Khilos'a children are born with Vitiligo, a skin condition that changes the amount of pigmentation. As the majority of Khilos'a people have this, it is viewed as beautiful and something to be celebrated.  Over the many years of them living within dark swamp lands, under cover from trees and plant life, their genetics have evolved to not rely on melanin to protect against the harsh rays of the sun.
