Ice Phoenix

In the southern snow and ice, Lives a bird that is pure white. And like its cousin of the flame, The ice phoenix cannot be tamed.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A medium sized bird, the ice phoenix has a single pair of wings that measure an average of 4 feet from wingtip to wingtip. From the tip of their tail feathers to the tip of their beak, they measure approximately 1 foot and 7 inches in length.

Genetics and Reproduction

Ice phoenix lay a single egg each year, kept safe in a nest made of branches, feathers, and densely packed snow. The egg hatches after anywhere from 2-4 months, with both parents taking turns in caring for the hatchling.

Ecology and Habitats

Ice phoenix live in the cold mountains and tundra of southern Nira'min. They most often can be seen roosting on rocky crags or in snow-covered trees, as well as in the sky hunting.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ice phoenix are carnivorous birds of prey, feeding on small mammals, reptiles, and the occasional bird.

Domestication

Although they are never truly domesticated, ice phoenix may often bond with an individual and remain with them over the course of the individual's lifetime.

Average Intelligence

Ice phoenix are highly intellegent birds, and have been shown to understand various sapient languages after being around them for a period of time.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Like most birds of prey, ice phoenix have excellent eyesight, using their vision to hunt for small prey animals from the air. Smell and hearing are not as good, with the ice phoenix relying on its eyesight over the other two.

Conservation Status
The ice phoenix is far rarer than the fire phoenix. With an estimate of ~600-800 wild individuals left, there are strict penalties attached to the possession of any part from an ice phoenix, with all known ice phoenix nesting grounds turned into reserves to protect them.

Keen Sight. The ice phoenix has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.   False Appearance. When the ice phoenix remains motionless on snow and ice covered terrain, it is indistinguishable from it's surroundings.


Actions

Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 1d4+2 slashing damage plus 1d4+2 cold damage   Frost Breath (Recharge 6). The ice phoenix exhales a 15-foot cone of cold air. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw, taking 5 2d4 cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
