School of Magic
The Schools of Magic are eight groups that categorize aspects of magic, particularly spells, based on their effects and uses.
The eight schools of magic are:
- Abjuration: Abjuration magic is meant to defend oneself and allies or to ward off threats.
- Conjuration: Conjuration magic transports a creature or object from one location to another, usually to summoning an ally/servant or to teleport creatures.
- Divination: Divination magic reveals unknown information about the past, present, and future, usually to scry specific locations or to glimpse into the future.
- Enchantment: Enchantment magic affects the thoughts and emotions of other creatures, usually to influence (or even control) behavior or to inspirit allies.
- Evocation: Evocation magic manipulates raw energy, usually for destructive attacks.
- Illusion: Illusion magic creates false perceptions that trick the senses.
- Necromancy: Necromancy magic manipulates life forces, usually by sapping energy from other creatures or sustaining them with healing. Most infamously, this magic is used to create undead.
- Transmutation: Transmutation magic alters the physical form of a creature or object—sometimes even completely transforming it.
