Culling Of Dragons

How much power is too much power.

While the different lesser races learned not to use the dark powers, nothing stopped people around the world from digging into different kinds of Prime Magic and so they did. It is said that at some point almost every human settlement consisted entirely of magic users and so the human civilization grew bigger and stronger then any other in Nilaris. The Dragons freely roamed the realms and allowed worshipping to all but the dark lords, until one simple mage from the southern realms discovered "Arcane Magic".       Listen to your elders.
The creation of Arcane Magic sparked whole new possibilities for the human and dwarven empires, now it was possible to bend materials to their will. The Dragons had taken notice of these newfound powers and had pledged the users to be careful and told them Arcane Magic holds more power then they could ever imagine. The dwarves took this warning serious and stopped their mutation, but of course to the greedy hearts of the humans, this meant expansion of their civilizations. The people in the southern lands manifested all their energy and converted other magic users into the art of Arcane. The dragons kept pleading with the southerners to not be overzealous and let the force of nature show them what they need to know. But it did not matter.       Self-destruction is part of the human nature.
After many years of expanding on the art of the Arcane, the magic of the southerners had reached unimaginable heights. Emperor Mehedi ruler of the lands we now call shyanin, harvested as much of the power he possibly could and is said to have build his own castle, later named Trolls Bane all by himself, using only transmutation spells. One fateful day a shadowy figure came to the emperors chamber and told him that the dragons essence could be absorbed if he just hunted and consumed them. The figure even offered to infuse some of its shadow energy onto the emperor, promising him and his next of kin unfathomable might, which he eagerly accepted. The already hungry monarch of the biggest domain in Nilaris, now had a thirst for Dragons blood and so the hunt began.
The smell of blood is enough to make a Southerner thirsty, the smell of Dragon blood is enough to make him horny.   Mehedi ordered a secret guild consisting of his strongest mages and weavers called Drak´Ha meaning "Dragon Hunt" to be formed. The men and women pledged their all to hunt down and kill whatever dragon of any sort they could find and bring only the skull and blood of the beast back to the emperor. Since he believed that drinking the blood of these magical creatures would give him their strength he kept faith in the blood for another decade, until his disappearance. During the years of Mehedi's culling it's believed the Drak'Ha drove the dragons almost to extinction. After the emperor's sudden vanishing his son Hrandir was crowned, for thirty years he sat the throne never knowing of the Drak'Ha, even though they never ceased their crusade. The years of Hrandir's reign and the following decades came with despair and demise, for worshippers of the darkness now freely roamed the realms. When last of the Dragons were either killed or fled the realms of Nilaris, a shadow unlike any seen before, began to rose from the depths.
