Straka
The jewel of the Desert of Ulb, Straka is the cultural and literal capital of the Strakan Empire and seat of Dragon Alwasi Tarkus.
Straka has spent centuries flourishing despite its geographic isolation due to its incomparable use of airships and its Air Fleet. It enjoys trade across both its territory and with its neighbors to the North and East.
The city itself is a mixture of both natural and artifically created oasis' that keep the city alive, allowing for the city to far outstrip its natural water and food supplies.
Demographics
Straka is split between a middle class made up of craftsmen, traders, soldiers, and explorers. Explorers are common with so much of the Desert of Ulb being unexplored. The lower class is probably better off than some middle classes to the north, with Straka's unique position benefiting them greatly.
The city is primarily made up of Humans and Kobolds, with Kobolds being drawn to the city over generations due to its Kobold leader. Other races are also represented, as the city is rather cosmopolitan, both with the species native to Kalin and various travelers and immigrants from Efaanu.
Government
While Tarkus runs the Empire, the city itself is technically ruled by his Grand Vizier (who is always a Blue Kobold). However, even this needs to usually be delegated due to the split attention of the Grand Vizier, so usually the day to day running of the city is handed off to appointed personel.
Defences
Straka is guarded, in part, by the Desert of Ulb that surrounds it, making approaching armies obvious and already on shaky ground when invading. Additionally Straka has the best airfleet in the world, with its command of the skies being almost unchallenged. What challenger survives those two factors must still contend with the Strakan Army, the Blades of Hakir, and of course Tarkus himself.
Industry & Trade
Straka, being in a giant desert, has to import a lot of its resources from its outer territory. In the city itself explorers and traders are very common trades beyond your average craftsmen. Traders will chart airships to go south and trade in the exotic lands there, or trade Strakan goods in other Kalin markets and visa versa. Explorers are also very common as much of the desert around Straka is unexplored.
Geography
Straka is built in the Desert of Ulb, while the city sits on a large series of Oasis' the area around it is very harsh and sand bitten. It's not an easy place to live without the protection of Straka's water.
