Galan Dalari Character in Nilam | World Anvil

Galan Dalari

Councilor of The Mantle (a.k.a. Last of the Dalari)

Galan Dalari is the well renowned Councilor of the Mantle on the Torva'Asu, the ruling council of Embrel. Before that, he was known as a tangential member of The Wayfarers, which kickstarted his political career in earnest.   Galan is often described as the "embodiment of what it is to be a Torva." Which can be a compliment or an insult depending on who says it. He is a fierce proponent of High Elven isolation from the surface of Kalin beyond the bare minimum, as well as general High Elven conservatism and traditional values.

Personal history

The last of the esteemed Dalari line, Galan was born as an "extra" son to noble parents. His older brother was destined for all the nobility and position. So instead of preparing for position and privilege Galan threw himself into his religious studies and worked in Lethaego's name as a Cleric.   This changed during the Year of the Dragon during the demonic invasion of Embrel. Galan soon received word that all of his family had perished in the attack, either in battle or in their houses. Determined to honor his families legacy, Galan took even more to his work and organized the faithful as best he could during the recovery and writing reports to the military.   His hard work and steady hand garnered the attention of Lienvira, the Military Council member of the Torva'Asu. He was placed as a diplomat in the aftermath of the attack to go to the Kingdom of Aurelia and negotiate a treaty. He got more than he bargained for and wound up joining the now well known Wayfarers on several of their missions throughout Kalin, including their diplomatic missions to Jarak and Ithalin. The relationship was effective, though Galan has been cited as being somewhat surprised by the Wayfarer's "childish attitude."   His time with the Wayfarer's and helping rebuild his city garnered more and more attention and Lienvira came to depend on him more and more, especially with so much of the cities leadership dead. When it came time to dedicate Embrellian troops to head east into The Nation of Ghosts, Lienvira gave the position to Galan, and he preformed quite remarkably during the Battle of 14 Nations.   Upon his return and the ending of the Year of the Dragon Galan was appointed as the Religious Councilor to the Torva'Asu. In the years that followed he became a voice of measured conservatism on the council against Ci'Me Heartsaran's progressivism.   Chaos once again took his life when The Return began. In begrudging cooperation with Ci'Me and Lienvira he led the city through the chaos. It was his plan to detach the city from what little remained of its earthly tether and take to the skies when the city was under threat by the forces of The Return. He was also at the climactic Fall of the Return at Atresa.   In the centuries since The Return and Lienvira's retirement from the council, Galan has become the foremost voice of the High Elven people. He is a fierce proponent of conservative Elven values and the Elves isolation from the world, only barely checked by his ever present rival Ci'Me Heartsaran.
