Church of the Mantle

The largest organized religion in Kalin, the Church of the Mantle are followers of The Mantle and its many gods and goddesses. The Church was formed before even the Torva’Ir, who took it in as part of the Empire proper. As followers of the Mantle, the Elves propagated the religion throughout Kalin, making in the dominant religion by far. After the Fall of the Torva the Church continued to function.   The Church has undergone turmoil in the current age in the last century with the reformation, which has seen the church effectively split in half between the Orthodox Church, and the Reformist Supragens Church/movement. While the worst of the fighting has died down with the Declaration of Supragen Acceptance and Tolerance, which forbade the religious skirmishes taking place across the continent and has strict and harsh punishments for both Orthodox and Supragens who do not comply, prejudice and judgement is still commonplace, along with occasional flare ups of violence.   The Church is based out of the Basilica Maxima, an ancient and massive church in Balmoth. It also has its own "nation within a nation" with the ancient city of Balmoth mostly being part of the Kingdom of Aurelia, minus a small radius around the Basilica Maxima which is owned and ruled wholly by the church.   The Church also controls the Mantle Militant, its paramilitary arm and defense force, used to protect its churches and (often illegally) skirmish with Supragens Churches.

Structure

The Church is ruled and ran by the High Priest/Priestess, who serves for life. A new one is selected when the old one dies or resigns, and is chosen by the other high ranking priests and priestesses.

Public Agenda

To praise the Mantle and spread the love and teachings of the Avatars and Gods. To determine what gods are gods, and which are merely spirits, as to lead the faithful truthfully. Shelter the abused and battered spouses of unfaithful curs.
