Nil'Dunna Emerging Histories

Nil'Dunna is seen as a relatively new world considering the previous age held no record of history or advancement. Over seven centuries ago ended a period of magical devastation that brought civilization to near extinction. Legend says even the gods far removed the prime material plane were forced to intervene. After what historians call "The Divine Escalation", humanity was able to rebuild from the rubble. Settlements of survivors developed into bastions of civilization without the threat of annihilation. This garnered The Negotiations, where leaders from each realm gathered in what is now Dranteth to forge peace. During this time they drafted the Accord of Civility which calls for each nation to remember the agreement through service of the 8 Gods of Nil'Dunna. Each representative took these promises with them to form new nations under the Accord. With civilization back on the mend, one question still remained; what could have caused such destruction that so little remained? And why do some claim it never truly ended?
