Forest Chicken

The Forest Chicken is a framed animal from the Dark Wood Forest used for their eggs and meat. They are to farm animal being easier then Forest Sheep. The Forest Chickens are keeped in small amounts and use small amount of land. They are main used for their eggs being common in a lot of food. The Forest Chickens are used for their meat when their is too much. They was brought to the area in the early of the settlement from the Great Plains to be framed feed the people. With the chicken living long time in the area. People unsure what breed of chicken the Forest Chicken came from with it looking like mix between different chicken breeds.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Small light brown body with dark brown wings and small cream white legs and grey toes.

Biological Traits

All chicken lay eggs with the change of them being fertilised with some not having this. Some of the chickens having longer claws them others. Some have strong legs for walking more. The size of the chicken is not that different from their way of getting food, it depends on their parents and the food in the area for how big they get.

Genetics and Reproduction

The chickens lay eggs normal everyday when summer comes chance that the eggs will grow. This needs lot of heat for long as days just to start. The farmers keep eggs to hatch in warm to hot but not too hot. They can use power or not power ways. Most of the time they leave their eggs with some in summer sit on them unit they hatch. Though that was old way that the chickens was hatching before farms took some to hatch larger number as most can grow into chickens.

Growth Rate & Stages

Once hatch they are small yellow chicken with little brown in the colour. They are at first small, blind and deaf. They eat bugs and plants from digging or just on the ground. They mainly eat what ever is on the ground. They like to stay around the dryer forest floors to look for eat and found a easy water access place. They can mainly eat plants from the ground or little dig with the area higher food amount.

Biological Cycle

Over time the Forest Chicken will drop feathers with them mainly coming off before summer. With fertilised eggs being more common around mid to later spring.

Behaviour

The Forest Chicken stay in small to large groups where they can also have smaller with in. Forest Chicken can sometime store small amount of food for later with it mainly use to feed the baby chicken when they are around or themselves with it being a passed on skill. They like to stay around each other and sometimes on their only. They like to relax by sitting around and is also how they sleep. Most of them don't like getting like to stay anywhere dry and when raining under hard shelter. Sometimes in hot summer day some of them love to get wet. They a lot of them prefer walk and eat food from the from the ground then dig.

They are keeped in small to large groups where they mainly are free range with home to sleep in or they can sleep outside. It common for there to be some fances around to protect them even guard dogs are used sometimes. They sometimes learn to lay their eggs in their home but this mainly happens outside early in the day. If water is around naturely they will drink form there if not, they will have small water area to drink from. They are sometimes fed hay and grains too.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

They are used for both eggs, meat and their feathers. The Forest chickens are mainly used for the eggs which is used in cooking, baking and they are not eaten raw. Their meat is used used in mainly cooking with most cuts being used for cooking or given to dogs if the cut is unused. The feather are used in writing and arrows.

Civilization and Culture

History

They brought in from the Great Plains in the early days of the area. It though they was multiple breed of chicken framed in the area at first later they become the Forest Chicken. They was high like for it multiple uses for their eggs and meat. They was always framed in free range with small home and a dog. The Forest Chicken are still bring framed in small groups as it was easy give them the land they need. With them over time being more in the town for their safe with they start to train large dogs to guard them. They soon become common farm animal in most frams as they was easier then the Forest Sheep to found land for and chicken given more food constantly. Some farms let the Forest Chicken out on grow area before replanting. With many recipes coming from the Great Plains and some made in the Dark Wood Forest to mix more local farm foods.
