The Mox

During the 2070s, the Mox were a small gang based out of Lizzie's Bar in Kabuki. They were made up of outcasts of different backgrounds in Night City, mostly sex workers, anarchists, punks, and sexual minorities. Formed in the interest of mutual self-defense purposes, their name came from the old slang term "moxie," denoting their determination to stand up against their oppressors. One of their emblems was "Moxes" written in calligraphy.   The Mox liked to wear outfits that were a mix of the punk aesthetic and the inexpensive fashion worn typically by prostitutes, however they usually did not wear clothes that would restrain their movements in any way, leaving them looking more like gangers than your typical sex workers. Some members, especially those who focued on combat, had heavily modified bodies that sometimes evoked a "plastic doll" style, but could also be disguised with RealSkinn. One of their gang symbols was a labrys, a double-headed axe, displayed on their walls, clothes, tattoos, or jewelry   The Moxes had their own clothing brand that went by the name BITCH V.13. While most Mox gangers carried bats and clubs, Mox Cleavers and Inciters generally carried weaponry similarly used by the Tyger Claws gang, likely pilfered from their fallen opponents in the ongoing conflict between the rival factions

Structure

The Mox did not have strict hierarchy. Nevertheless they were a gang, and regardless of the fact that its members referred to themselves as "those who protect working girls and guys" from violence and abuse, they demanded substantial fee from their charges. They also run several smaller brothels where they profit from prostitution, as well as clinics

Assets

Most of the Moxes' income was generated by Lizzie's Bar, which was an exclusive braindance club. They did not control any contiguous portion of Night City, focusing instead on protecting their facilities, members, and sex workers who operated in the vicinity of Lizzie's Bar and their other establishments. As long as they were left to their business, they did not actively seek confrontation with other gangs, although they mantained tense relations with the Tyger Claws, who continued to test their patience and combat capabilities

History

The Mox, often referred to as The Moxes, are a gang formed in response to the brutal realities of sex work and gang violence in Night City. Their history is one born from tragedy, vengeance, and a desire for protection in a world where empathy is scarce and exploitation is rampant.   Their story begins on May 13, 2067, when Elizabeth "Lizzie" Borden, a former sex worker and owner of a strip club, was murdered. Lizzie had gained a reputation as a fierce protector of her workers, standing up against violent clients and treating her girls fairly — an exception in Night City’s underworld. When one of her girls was raped and murdered by members of the Tyger Claws, Lizzie retaliated by brutally killing three of the attackers with an axe and displaying their bodies in front of her club as a warning. That same night, the Tyger Claws struck back. They raided her bar, destroyed it, and murdered Lizzie herself.   Her death ignited riots across Night City, aimed largely at the Tyger Claws. The public outrage and chaos that followed transformed Lizzie into a martyr — a symbol of resistance against the systemic abuse of sex workers and the unchecked power of gangs. In the wake of her death, her ideological heirs came together to rebuild her bar, naming it Lizzie’s Bar, and founded a new gang: The Mox.   The Mox were formed to defend sex workers, sexual minorities, and anyone oppressed or abused by society’s power structures. They became known as a gang that protected their own — especially those who had no other protection. While their cause was noble, The Mox also recognized the need to fund their efforts. Over time, they began charging significant fees for protection and operated their own brothels. Lizzie’s Bar was transformed into an exclusive braindance club, which became a major source of income. They even released their own edgy fashion line: BITCH V.13.   Their territory wasn’t defined by geography, like most gangs, but by occupation — The Mox claimed dominion over sex work, protecting those in the profession who aligned with them. They focused more on safeguarding a community than holding ground, which made their presence diffuse but meaningful.   By 2077, The Mox had become more structured under the leadership of Susie "Q", a pragmatic and often hard-edged woman who understood the limitations of their mission. The gang realized they couldn’t protect every sex worker in Night City — only those who operated within their network. This shift marked a turning point in their identity. Some members began to fear that The Mox were drifting away from their founding ideals, becoming gatekeepers of safety rather than liberators. Their moral clarity was now muddied by profit motives, selective protection, and the compromises that came with power.   Even so, The Mox remained one of the most socially conscious and purpose-driven factions in Night City. While they operated like a gang, their roots in activism and community defense distinguished them from the bloodthirsty or corporate-aligned groups that surrounded them. They are both a product of Night City’s cruelty — and one of its rare forms of resistance.
