Tyrilith Wagonette

Magical Alchemical Conveyance

History

The Tyrilith Wagonette was the brilliant brainchild of Mistress Solina Boval Solina Boval and Homat MasterWorks two years after the discovery of the Tyrilith Roads. At the time the roads were discovered they were unusable since anyone foolish enough to enter never came back out again. It wasn't until rumors of a survivor of the Tyrilith Roads roads came to Mistress Boval's attention that she was overcome with curiosity. She immediately set out to meet the man. Her journals indicate that there was very little left of the man's mind and it was doubtful that she would be able to glean any useful information, but after months of hard work and making sure that he was cared for in the best conditions she was finally able to gather enough pieces to have theories. Unfortunately the man died soon after, his mind never having been healed from his harrowing experience, and the physical condition of his body further deteriorated regardless of what healing interventions they tried.   Armed with very little verifiable information and her own stubborn need to unravel the mystery she set out to the Tyrilth Road entry point. For six moons Mistress Boval lurked in the wild of the road's entrance, hunting for the scent of a magical creature that the unfortunate man had mentioned with no luck. Twice she noted times when people went to enter the road and never returned. Both times she tried to warn them, but desperation or a lack of caution led to both ignoring her and in they went. She does note that the thought crossed her mind on more than one occasion that the only way to find out what she wanted to know would be to enter herself regardless of the almost certain death that awaited her if she was ever going to get the answers that she came for, but she managed to ignore this impulsiveness and waited.   A single moon later she finally found what she was looking for. A small creature unknown in the Spheres with an incredible talent for remaining undetetected. She managed to catch the creature and returned home to her workshop to understand it's significance and ties to the road. It would be another six moons before she would figure out the mystery and approach Homat MasterWorks with her information and ideas. She ended up dubbing the creature the Tyrilith Usher, a nickname that is still used to this day. After the secrets to the Tyrilith Roads were discovered she set out to enlist the help of the renowned Alchemist Homat and his MasterWorks shop to create the amazing conveyances that are in use today.

Construction

Constructing the core of the wheels is a delicate, time consuming process and very expensive as it requires the services of a Master Alchemist
The actual wagonette itself isn't much different from the Safferian Desert Strider in its construction. The main body is easy enough to adapt from these staples of the MasterWorks to use. The real trick lay in construction of the wheels. Seeing as how the road itself wasn't magical, but the place the road travelled through ate magic and anyone traveling on it, they needed to make the wheels of the wagonette run on magical power, imbued by alchemists to be able to store that magic and use it without allowing it to be leached by the environment. This was extremely tricky and it took many months of redesigning until they were able to successfully incorporate the core into the wheelwell without it cracking under the strain, but able to continue to be charged. Each wheel then had to be stored and housed in specially made magic buffers to keep the charge from trickling out while they were transported to the Tyrilith Road and retrofitted to the trains that had been brought there earlier.

Experimentation

Once all the core components were constructed it was time to put theory into practice. This was a complicated affair because of so many variables that hadn't been put to the test. On one hand they had the wagonette constructed and the wheels worked in theory, but now they needed to be able to have the mage both open the way and power the wagonette without dying or losing their powers. A Mage Box was constructed for this purpose and implemented into the design on the wagonette so that a mage could semi comfortable stay inside fully shielded from the environment, yet still be able to charge the wheel cores as they travel.

When all components of the Wagonette are put together it can travel safely through the Tyrilith roads and exit into one of the other Tyrilith Nexus points cutting anywhere from hours to days of travel. This method of travel is highly dangerous and expensive. More than once a convoy has gone missing and no one ever knows exactly what happens as there is never anything to find. No one ever chooses this form of travel for themselves or for their goods without good reason. only the truly desperate use this travel, but it is still lucrative enough that Hamolt MasterWorks keeps waystations at every known Tyrilith road nexus.
Tyrilith Wagonette Components
  • Shielded Alchemically constructed Body
  • Reinforced Wheels with Alchemy Core
  • Mage to Power the Wagonette and open the Nexus
  • Shielded Mage Box to keep the Mage safe during travel
  • Experienced Engineer
  • Tyrilith Usher to guide them
Warning
Please note that this mode of travel is almost strictly used for goods or those without any inherent magical ability as the wagonette cannot shield enough to keep those traveling safe. On occasion they might have a second mage box available, but this is neither comfortable nor ideal and at best can fit only one.
If any one of these components is missing or damaged the chances of making it through the Tyrilith road alive are almost zero. For whatever reason the Tyrilith Ushers are bound to the roads and allow travel through them and they are the most important component to this unique way to travel. Additionally the strain on the mage can be pretty devastating to their psyche and runs the risk of exhausting their magic power. The Safferian mage school now requires third year journeyman to serve for three moons a year on the MasterWorks Payroll. This provides Journeyman with good experience and keeps any one mage from getting burnt out. MasterWorks pays handsomely for this privilege.
"If you want to die go ahead, no one is stopping you from entering and getting your fool self killed, but my mage has already run the road today and I'll not be putting his life or the rest of ours in danger by trying for a second run. You can wait until tomorrow or go somewhere else!"
