The Shadowweavers

After the Serpentine War, the Treaty of 241st Street laid out certain rules under which this new society must operate. Each guild holds equal power over society. No guild has jurisdiction over members of another. Violence between guilds is not tolerated.    On the surface, these rules are followed to the letter due to the magical power of the document itself, which literally binds creatures to their word. But the treaty is weaker and far more loophole-filled than the public is led to believe. Nothing stops mortals' ambition for power, nor their creativity in finding ways to satisfy that ambition. The Treaty writers weren't naïve, and into the document, they wrote a secret clause forming and detailing the role of the Shadowweaver's guild- to remain out of the public eye and to enforce these rules by any means necessary. Usually, this means corporate espionage and sabotage, but this hasn't stopped them from training a significant number of assassins under Siren's command.   The Weavers work more or less independently, with only a few Centurion Council members knowing about the organization's existence. Many low-ranking Weavers aren't even aware of it, thanks to the guild's emphasis on using mind magic to control both friend and foe.

Structure

  1. Guildmaster Spider, and Malice, his right-hand.
  2. The Coven- Spider's family, each responsible for managing a segment of the city
  3. Trusted agents- usually aid coven members in the day-to-day management. These are the only agents who know of the existence of the coven.
  4. Agents
  5. Sleeper agents- completely unaware of the Weavers' existence

Culture

  • The Shadowweaver's Guild values secrecy, wit, efficiency, information, and family ties.
  • The guild tends to shun gossip and anything they deem detrimental to their plans.
  • At their best, they're fair and honorable enforcers that keep the big governmental systems honest, but at their worst, they're bloodthirsty assassins addicted to control.

Public Agenda

The few of the Council that know of the existence of the Weavers have been told that the guild is the checks-and-balance system that keeps New Z'hrat from breaking out in civil war.

Assets

The guild does fairly well for itself, even without public funding, likely due to the fact that most of their agents are sleepers and don't get a salary or any equipment. They keep a decent armory, though not as good as the ones held by guilds with standing armies. Their main assets are information and blackmail gathered by their agents.

History

  • In 1109, Spider transformed Huntsman into a Blue vampire, creating the first of his Webweavers. The group was originally created to aid Spider in the collection of new ideas related to his research on magic. Due to the fact that mind magic, and therefore Huntsman's very existence, was illegal, this quickly turned into an espionage group that operated from the shadows.
  • Spider inducted Malice, his sister, into the organization. Over time, Recluse and Wraith were turned and added as well.
  • During the Serpentine War, the Webweavers were forced to reveal themselves. Spider, with the aid of Malice and Huntsman, would then go on to betray and assassinate his father, the Oracle of Erudition. At this time, many agents either fell in combat, or were discovered and executed.
  • 0 NZE, the Shadowweavers were formed by the Treaty, changing their name to disguise Spider's involvement.
  • After the war, in attempt to obtain more personnel to quickly make up for their losses, the Shadowweavers began work on human experimentation. Wolf (turned by Malice) and Siren (by Huntsman) were appointed to serve as the leaders of these new "employees."
  • In 105, the Weavers pulled off their most ambitious mission to date: the assassination of the Gilded Lady and installing one of their own in her place, thus ensuring the takeover of the Church of Gold in a way that did not break Treaty law.

Demography and Population

Thanks to the number of sleeper agents and well-hidden records on them, not much is known about their true numbers, only that each coven member has their own way of doing things and their own individual rosters. These members can be comprised of anyone, of any age, from any species or guild.

Education

Each coven member is responsible for the training of their own recruits, and as such, the number and skill level of the recruits varies widely between districts. Non-sleeper agents are usually acquired and trained on an as-needed basis.
