New Orleans is known worldwide for its culture, its food, its music, and architecture, and its amazing parties. It is a place where people come from all over the world to spend some time steeped in its rich history and diverse personality. It has been called the greatest city in the world by some.
New Orleans has a darker side as well. Just underneath the bustle of the tourist city lies a different New Orleans that not many know about. A world of darker things that lie behind every facet of the city. This hidden world is filled with legends and tales that are used to scare children or provide entertainment for those that enjoy such things. A world of vampires, witches, werewolves, and ghosts. Of spirits and Demons and other things that are the stuff of old fairy tales and nightmares.
It can be felt by those willing to look for it, in the air, on the street, behind the old-fashioned windows, and in the shadows. Books are written about it, stories are told, tours given, and yet most people discard this other world, even when it is right in front of them. The inhabitants of this darker world would have it no other way. They rely on being tall tales, and bedtime stories. As long as people don't believe, they are just victims waiting to be used, prey for the hunters, pawns for the puppet masters, food for the monsters.
New Orleans is one of the places where the things that go bump in the night congregate. Where they can blend in and take advantage of a culture that is so willing to embrace them, while denying their existence completely.
New Orleans is a grand city filled with all manner of wonders but beware that which lies under its mask.
New Orleans: Under the Mask is the setting for a play by post RPG run on RPoL. The setting is a fictional version of New Orleans, LA. While many of the places may be similar to the real city, the version of New Orleans in the game world is completely fictional and is not intended to mirror the real version.
Players of the RPG will be able to play as a number of supernatural creatures, or even plain vanilla mortals if they wish.
This site will be used to collect information on players, NPCs, places, and other information that will help bring the world that lies under the mask of New Orleans to life.
