Jean-Gaius Archambault
Sir Jean-Gaius Archambault, of Highmount
Sir Jean-Gaius Archambault of Highmount, or simply "Gaius" to his friends, is a flamboyant aristocrat descended of the oldest land-owning family lineage in High Hedgemont. A brash, arrogant noble with a heart of gold, Jean-Gaius seeks to make a name for himself and enhance the prestige of High Hedgemont through heroic displays of bravery and swashbuckling violence.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Jean-Gaius' apparent strength is half the result of constant physical self-trial and half the result of his unrestrained psychology; in all physical realms, the young noble exerts himself with utmost intention. This mindset translates into near-fearlessness in battle, to the extent that Jean-Gaius is known to plunge his rapier into an opponent all the way up to the hilt. Though not as nimble on his feet as some other fencers, Jean-Gaius is an adroit practitioner of the parry and riposte.
Special abilities
Jean-Gaius' charisma and keen eye for detail help him to dictate the terms of engagement whenever he decides that violence is the only option to resolve an issue. He has a knack for 'reading' opponents, goading those he believes he can best into close combat while using a combination of threats, insinuation, and personal presence to deter those whom he thinks might actually be able to best him. An educated man - though possessed of an unremarkable intellect - Jean-Gaius tempers his use of these natural talents in accordance with the moral philosophy passed down to him by the old Lord Highmount. Thus, while Jean-Gaius could become a terror if set free to act according to his own passions, he chooses to use his abilities only to serve the cause of justice.
Apparel & Accessories
Jean-Gaius wears the finery of a High Hedgemont noble, but few realise that the lining of his elaborate coat is stitched with protective arcane sigils on the inside. For all his skill at arms, Jean-Gaius is still human - it would not do for the son of a wealthy family to be struck down in ignominity by some hedge-sorceror's lightning.
Specialized Equipment
Aside from the fine rapier and main gauge that hand proudly from his belt at all times, Jean-Gaius is also known to carry a musket when adventuring affield. This matchlock contrivance is a relatively new invention in High Hedgemount, but offers the young noble some defense against opponents too far away to be readily dealt with by blades.
Social
Mannerisms
Jean-Gaius plays the part of a stereotypical arrogant noble and speaks as though from a sense of overwhelming superiority towards the world and everyone in it. In truth, he actually takes the welfare of the people at heart and typically plays this attitude for laughs rather than doing it from a place of genuine mean-spiritedness; at the end of the day, High Hedgemont's continued prosperity is the root of Jean-Gaius' pride.
The good-naturedness of Jean-Gaius' arrogant noble schtick changes when he percieves someone to be a brigand, bully, or other ne'er-do-well. In these cases, he takes the measure of the miscreant before confronting them, striving to overawe his opponent with purple prose and veiled threats in the form of allusions to what happens when people "stray from the path of justice" or "act the jester in front of their betters." In this way, Jean-Gaius seeks to either humiliate his opponent into quitting the place or, if it can't be helped, drive the confrontation to a swift end at the tip of his blades.
