Personal history

It is unknown who Amber's parents are, but she was found and raised by one of the head scholars of the High Hedgemont Town Archives. Her childhood was fueled by magic, and learning of the world under the tutelage of many elderly scholars. As she grew into a teenager she became more reclusive, focusing on her studies of ancient generican. Fascinated by the wonderous contraptions of the world beyond Hedgemont's walls. Her imagination was driven in a new direction, she desired to create these old machines and spent time with the town smith, Smithy, to learn just how to create such complex devices.   Eventually, she was called back to the archives after a despite with Smithy. To learn of something far more important, the knowledge of the world was fading with the life of the elder scholars. She was the youngest person who could read the old scripts, and those scripts were limited. She was given a new title and a new purpose. Search the world, find, and preserve the old scripts. Return them to High Hedgemont and ensure that the knowledge would not be lost.

Trials of the White Herald: Iron Challenge

A day or so passed before we were able to gather up everyone as well as a new member of the explorer's guild to go out and explore exactly what we had found last time near Miller's Hamlet. The new member of the group was a guy by the name of Max, a hermit from the crystal wood who decided to join us seeing we might need medical assistance.   Anita was the first to find the wax golem, still standing near where he was last time. The creature had a new speaking cone despite Robert's attempt to take it. (An addendum, the last report was wrong, It was Robert who attempted to take the speaking cone.). The group tried for a short time to communicate with the golem unsuccessfully. I was able to recognize it as a machine rather than a creature, as it had repeated its last statement of "Join us to test your metal before venturing forth." I figured it must have a command line of some kind.   "Show us the way." Was the needed command line. With that, it waved us on and lead us deeper into the crystal wood. We ended up discovering a massive pine tree with crumbling fortifications having been built up just below its canopy consisting primarily of a broken wall following a circular path, and three guard towers. Four more wax golems were there, but rather than the wax herald who was modeled after a man in finary, these four were molded from soldiers. Each held up a hand that glowed with blue magical fire. The wax harald informed us that this was the challenge. We were free to enter at any time.   Between us, a small argument broke out with Robert, and Brok saying that we shouldn't go in, that it was a trap. I told them that if it had been a trap, or if I had been the one to set this up, that the wax golems would have already fired upon us as soon as we crested the hill before taking cover. It wasn't a trap but a challenge. Cat decided that she didn't like waiting, possessed by one of her personalities, she strode in not giving us much time to prepare.   Just as the constructs started reading to fight, Robert acted. He charged into the middle of the fortifications, throwing knives at three of the wax soldiers. He was then pelted into unconsciousness by hot wax... It was all very cool and good. I moved to cover while taking pot shots with my knight while Anita successfully downed one of our three opponents with a blast of energy. The one who took down Robert was cut in half by Cat's scyth and Max got Robert back up. Max then however summoned a pile of firewood on top of another leaving us to only contend with one of the wax constructs. Knight charged it using a barrel it had picked up to defend itself as it got close to tackle the construct, I wanted to try and reprogram it. However I was too late as Robert hit it with a dagger despite my call. It wasn't a long battle maybe only half a minuet.

Trials of the White Herald: Preliminary Scouting

Today I was put into a group with several others from the Explorer's Guild to look into a posting on the board. A small hamlet nearby had seen ghostly apparitions in the night over the last few weeks.   The group consisted of Kittenya Cataletta, a human woman with cat ears and a tail who claimed to be possessed by her scythe. She was a bit strange but wasn't the group's oddest participant. Wonder who she hired to make that scythe? It couldn't have been Smithy, after all that idiot couldn't possibly have made something that fancy. I did recognize her weird dress armor as one of the commissions I've done in the past. Saw a lot of that equipment today. She claims that the spirits that possess her are named Black Barbarian the warrior, Vincent the mage, and Kumo the ninja. She still seemed friendly enough despite her questionable mental state.   Second was a man who said his name was Brok, no last name was given. He was dressed like one of those penny doctors who claim to help you, but actually just stick leeches on you and then claim you to be better. Think they are called plague doctors, not sure where that label originates. The guy creeped me out however, claiming he understood chemistry and having no working knowledge of the subject as well as claiming, and I quote. "Likes to watch things die." If possible I think someone in the town should re-review his application to the Explorer's Guild.   Third was a local hunter named Robert Davis. He was packing a lot of throwing knives and was really quiet. Said he likes to hunt birds which almost made the Mech jump him. Still don't think that comment was directed at me, just a matter of fact.   Finally, we had Anita Baker, a woman from one of the outlying communities with ties to the landowners of High Hedgemont. Something about her mother working their booking. She looked like a scrappy young woman, the sort who is always ready for a fight.   It didn't take us long to actually get there, it was only a few miles out of town. Ended up speaking to a man named Farmer Tim, who said that they were leaving strange waxy residue on the bushes and fencing. That the ghosts were not graceful as described in archive texts, but rather shambling. He couldn't remember the terminus point when questioned on it, just that they appeared a few weeks ago. I found a sample of the discharge and after giving it a smell I identified it was candle wax. Robert was able to use that to start tracking one of the creatures. Around mid-day we found it roaming in the forest, it was a wax golem. I thought the mechanical knight was the only construct in existence but no, this thing was an actual machine made by some other inventor. It had a speaking cone that, when pulled from its hands by Brok spoke. It said that it could tell we were leaving the forest. It invited us to "Test our metal before venturing forth." the cone which this came from then melted as Brok tossed it away from himself in surprise. A discovery like this had to be shared, I encouraged us to return to the Rest and share our findings, to which the others agreed.
