Lord Admiral Orson Marcellus
Lord Admiral Orson Marcellus (born 2721) is one of the core leaders of the Galactic Systems Union, the head of the Terran State Authority and the utmost authority of the GSU military. Originally the second in command to the previous Lord Admiral, Thomson Lincoln, Marcellus ascended to the position after his predecessor was assassinated - a shocking event that shook the Terran Empire.
In response to this event, and from mounting pressure from most worlds in the empire, Marcellus officially announced the dissolution of the Terran Empire in order to stifle any potential uprisings that may jeopardise the peace that had been established for almost two centuries since the Acheron Event. However this was only a front, for the Terran Empire lived on, but in a different form.
With Marcellus at the helm, he formed a shadow council consisting of numerous politicians from across human space who remained loyal to the Lord Admiral. It was through their numerous meetings that these individuals - who held positions of considerable power, were able to sway the social, political and economic landscapes of their respective planets to the instruction of the Marcellus.
It was because of this shadow council that Marcellus was so easily able to reunite over a hundred human worlds into the Second Galactic Systems Union, using the threat of the Xarqiin as his primary argument in favour of this reunification.
Orson Marcellus is widely regarded as one of the most cunning minds of his era. His mastery of political strategy rivals his brilliance in naval warfare, and he maintains an iron grip not only on military and political affairs, but also scientific, economic and social matters. Rarely seen smiling, Marcellus addresses every issue with razor-sharp clarity and a commanding presence that leaves no room for defiance.
As a leader, he works tirelessly to perfect the Union’s defenses against threats both external and internal, and while it may not appear so, he deeply values the lives of civilians who live under the Union’s authority. Many, mostly Terran residents, regard him as a hero while others a ruthless dictator. And although he may be disliked - or even hated - by many of his contemporaries, there is a begrudging sense of respect for his intellect and experience.
