Valraath

God of Destruction and Slaughter

"I will not stop until reality is extinct."

The End To All That Is

Of all the lords of the Infernal Order, none embody virtues of hatred and bloodlust so vividly as Valraath, the God of Destruction, Slaughter, and Malice. He is the patron to serial killers, torturers, and those who spread disorder. He is widely considered to be the most evil of all beings. Valraath empowers through terror, striking fear into the hearts of his followers and compelling them to carry out his malevolent will upon the earth through bloodshed and chaos. While he is as sadistic as any can be, his destruction has a goal — like most Infernals, he regards creation as a mistake, though it is his chosen goal to see it undone, to literally destroy all that exists. He has sought on more than one occasion to overthrow the cosmic order and take the title of Omnigod for himself, to destroy all of creation, including himself.

The Deadlands

Valraath's decrepit domain is known as the Deadlands. It is a realm that is best described as a twisted reflection of the material plane — a desolate wasteland, ravaged by perpetual destruction. Crumbling buildings, lifeless husks, rivers of molten lava, skies burning with anguish, and merciless winds that carve flesh slicing through any unfortunate enough to find their way there. To a soul from Nethdria, one would notice this realm is a copy of the one they call home, with every detail malignantly reimagined in a grotesque manner that mocks the original.

Artifacts

Scourge

This malevolent flail is the most feared artifact of the God of Destruction. Also known as the Mace of Spite, the weapon is of an obsidian make with spikes nearly a foot in length. It exudes a disturbing aura of pure, unmitigated hatred. Scourge is said to siphon the life force out of anyone it ravages. It also has the unique capability to destroy absolutely anything, from the flesh of its victims to even other relics it strikes. As well, the flail quickly infects the soul of the wielder, corrupting them and draining them of any compassion, empathy, or love, until they are a soulless husk with no identity or memory of who they once were.

Holidays

Night of Bloodlust

While Valraath is not typically revered through joyful celebrations or holidays, the Night Elves of the Underdark, who fervently worship him, might observe solemn and macabre rituals to honor his dark influence. These rituals would serve as reminders of the destructive power they seek to embody and the chaos they wish to unleash.   This somber occasion is observed on the longest night of the year, when darkness envelops the world. The Night Elves gather in secluded caverns or within the depths of the Underdark to pay homage to Valraath. They engage in intense meditation, reflecting on the destructive forces within themselves and the power of hatred and malice. The atmosphere is filled with whispered prayers, ominous chants, and the reverberation of drums, symbolizing the impending chaos.   During the Night of Bloodlust, the Night Elves engage in rituals of self-inflicted pain and sacrifice, demonstrating their devotion to Valraath and their willingness to embrace destruction. They may engage in bloodletting ceremonies, where each participant offers a symbolic sacrifice to Valraath, representing their dedication to the cause of murder and hatred.   The night culminates with a grand bonfire, symbolizing the consuming flames of destruction. The Night Elves gather around the fire, casting effigies or symbolic representations of their enemies into the inferno, releasing their pent-up hatred and vowing to spread chaos in the name of Valraath.   While these observances may vary among different communities of Night Elves, the underlying theme remains the same—acknowledging Valraath's destructive power and expressing unwavering devotion to his ideals of annihilation and hatred.
