Nyx's Cabal

The far reaching hand of doom

Many assassin guilds dot Sol's landscape, but none are as far-reaching and widely feared as Nyx's Cabal. Usually just shortened to 'the Cabal,' the organization is very well known and is a highly organized guild that has deeply entrenched itself in most areas of the continent with the exception of Daeruin and the Underdark, which is the long-held territory of the Moonlight Company, another assassin guild. Nyx's Cabal is a mysterious guild, and little is known about its inner workings in the eyes of the general public. As the name suggests, the Cabal works by the will and in the unholy name of Nyx, Goddess of Secret Murder. To quote from their sacred manuscript, the Code of Nyx, "We have eyes in every shadow, a hand in every death, and a blade in every heart. Beware of the hand of Nyx."

Structure

Nyx's Chosen

The highest ranking member of the guild at large in Nyx's Chosen. He or she is a single entity and they are considered the highest mortal authority for all of the guild's operations across the continent, all leaders answer to them indirectly through their subordinates. Nyx's Chosen is both the temporal and religious authority of the guild, claiming to speak for Nyx herself by direct message.

The Ghosts

This ranking is reserved for the ten subordinates of Nyx's Chosen. The Ghosts work directly for the Chosen and deliver messages to the leaders on their behalf. They are given the title for their ability to never be seen, known, or directly spoken to by any lower ranking members.

The Patriarch/Matriarch

The leader of any individual cabal is called a patriarch or matriarch and they make all everyday decisions such as permitted and prohibited targets for assassination. Their word in their cabal is absolute and must be obeyed by lower members, however, in the tradition of hierarchy in the wider organization, their word can be overruled by higher members, namely Nyx's Chosen.

The Administrators

Typically only ranking in five or fewer per individual cabal, the administrators are the right hand men and women of the cabal leaders. They can make important decisions in the leader's stead and will often act as their main support in cabal politics and governing. They are typically seasoned assassins who have earned their place and will not be tasked with low ranking assassinations or menial work around the base.

The Agents

The lowest ranking and most populous of the Cabal, the agents are the main workforce, namely the assassins. Sometimes called acolytes as well, the agents are the main operatives someone is likely to meet when contacting the organization. They do most of the menial tasks, errands, and killings. When joining the organization, one starts as an agent and works their way up by being loyal, effective, and, in some cases, creative.

They have strongholds called bases in most major regions of Sol.
