Islan

A plane of floating islands and sky. Islan is a primordial realm, meaning that it has fundamental power in specific elements that determine its formations and laws. For Islan, the primordial elements that make it are Air and Earth, which not only give it its gravity-defying islandic nature, but also cause each island to have its own dual gravity well, allowing traversal of the tops and bottoms of the islands. The sun in the sky cycles over these islands, creating an opposing day-night cycle depending on which side of the island you are on. Some islands, however, are 'sideways' the border of their two gravity wells following the path of the sky and putting these islands in a twilit limbo. Taking this into account, many islands are not conformed to one linear plane or another, their two gravity wells, while always opposing one another, can point in any number of directions. As a result, hopping from island to island can be an extremely wild and sporadic experience as you readjust to each gravity well and have to keep track of new day/night cycles. This also creates some intriguing complications involving the Void around Islan. Most of the islands of Islan seem to follow a 'plane', islands not appearing too high up or below the said plane, which means that there is a 'void' that encompasses the top and bottom of the realm. Once a person escapes the gravity well of an island, they are left free-floating with no gravity. Some see this as a fun escape if they can teleport or thrust themselves to another location, but for others, it is the worst nightmare in mind. Some have traveled skywreath vines from island to island only to lose their grip and died floating in arms reach from the vines themselves. Some have projectile-launched themselves from islands by some means or another and are assumed to still be rocketing into the void above or below to this day. As a result, traveling Islan is something that is best done in groups.

Geography

Made up of void, sky, and numerous floating islands, Islan is an extraordinary place to traverse, but also extremely treacherous as nobody knows where the void below leads, if even the fall ever ends. While many assume that there is an end to the void, it is assumed that the end is far enough to require several lifetimes of free-falling to reach. The islands themselves can come in a variety of terrains and sizes, ranging from massive tundra expanses to house-sized islands with tiny groves of trees. However, due to its island nature, there are many resources that are scarce in the world. Many ores are extremely sparse due to a lack of tectonic pressure and formation, and seeing that the islands are limited in resources such as stone, life in Islan can be particularly rustic in nature, most things made of renewable resources such as wood, furs, and plants.

Ecosystem

Due to the wide variety of islands and terrain, Islan is host to a massive expanse of creatures and plants. Land-bound creatures do exist, but usually in very closed ecosystems that vary from an island to island basis. However, the most common creatures are those that are able to fly, creatures that have the ability to bounce from island to island for food and resources that may not exist on other islands, while also having limitless room to expand. These are also the most unique aspect of the realm as many mundane creatures have adapted ways to traverse from island to island that may not involve wings. Plants are probably the most mundane aspect as a result. Many plants have no issue pollinating other islands and haven't needed many ways to adapt to their surroundings. There are exceptions to the rule, however, such as skywreath, which is an almost gravity-defying vine that stretches from island to island, allowing creatures to travel between them and expand the vines' reach as a result, pollinating new locations. However, if left to fester, skywreath can completely choke some islands of life and is seen as a blight if allowed to get out of hand.
