Teikoku no sakyu koya

The Teikoku no sakyu koya {imperial sand dunes wilderness} is a large sand dune field or erg located in the southern portion of Tora Hanto {tiger peninsula} between the southern banks of the Chikugo-gawa {builder river}, west of the edge of the Tora Choyaku Kyokoku {tiger leaping canyons} fields (which continue into the sea), and northeast of the Sharqiun Kiso Yama {eastern foundation backbone mountains} foothills and the city of Silverbridge. It has a hot desert climate and may reach over fifty degrees celsius during the day. There is sparse vegetation - mostly desert acacia shrubland, yucca palm, and juniper - and a great many insects and arachnids especially beetles, wasps, and bees. There is coyote, roadrunners, burrowing owls, banded lizards, tora rattlesnake, and fringe-toed lizard among the local wildlife. The dune field is approximately seventy five kilometers long by ten kilometers wide and extends along a line that correlates to the prevailing northerly and westerly wind currents. The area is designated as a National Natural Landmark by the Ministry of National Parks and Reserves. Most of the area is off limits and protected as Crown Reserves but twenty thousand acres north of Silverbridge at the edge of the dunes have been set aside for recreational off-road vehicle traffic and camping. Book early as the park only allows ten thousand permits per season.
