Akichi Erg

The Akichi Erg {empty quarter} is a prominent locale of the Eastern Desert province found between the south-western coast of the Sangosho Gulf {coral} and the Kanawha River {white rock} in a deep depression left by the movement of glaciers millennia ago. It sits on a platform of sedimentary rock that hosts ancient giant hydrocarbon and artesian water deposits that is now covered by billions of tons of sand blown from the south and west. The erg is about one thousand kilometers long and five hundred kilometers wide. The surface elevation varies from eight hundred meters above sea level in the southwest to below sea level in the northeast. The terrain is covered in wind swept sand sheets and sand dunes with heights up to two hundred and fifty meters above ground interspersed with gravel and gypsum plains. The sand is generally a reddish orange color due to the presence of feldspar. Closer to the gulf coast on the desert's eastern edge are brackish salt flats. There are several meteor impact craters filled with iron and glass deposits buried by the sands. The region is classified as hyper arid with less than fifty millimeters of annual rainfall. Daytime temperatures regularly exceed sixty degrees celsius and rarely go below forty degrees celsius at night. Dry windstorms - haboob and sirocco that carry great quantities of sand and dust blow nearly constantly across the desert at speeds up to one hundred and forty kilometers per hour which in turn drops the humidity to below five percent. Fauna includes birds, arachnids, insects, lizards, snakes, and rodents with sparse waxy coated desert shrubs being the only flora. It is one of the driest places on Nejiro and virtually uninhabited. The exception being the railway lines, built on bridges anchored into the sedimentary rock underneath the sand that cross the desert from Leyte, Yousai, and Bridges. There are no roadways. The Akichi Erg makes up a significant percentage of the Akichi Chiku {empty quarter district} which continues west through the Shirudo no taka-sa {shield heights} {composed of arid rocky hills that reach heights of more than one thousand meters formed from granite and crystalline igneous rock with deposits of precious and industrial metals and minerals (gold, copper, tin, silver, zinc, lead, iron, tungsten, mineral sands, phosphates) but mining is not pursued in the Chiku at this time due to the shortage of water and infrastructure and the resources are currently un-needed}. The Akichi Chiku continues almost to the Yoshino-gawa and is classified as an Environmental Seat in the Nejiro Commons House of Parliament. Its MP is Jeddah Zahid.
