Solvolnava - Dragonborn & Kobold (soll-voll-NAV-ah)
The Solvolnava, also called the Dragonborn, Kobolds, or Scaled Ones in commonspeak, are a race of humanoid dragon creatures that typically live in the mountains of central and southern Kakon, especially in the Cliffs of Margathra. They are normally taller than the average Human, well above six feet, and often heavier too, often being extremely muscular even when unhealthy. Besides their general silhouette, however, they were nothing like humans or most other races. They were scaled in many colours, possessed elemental breath powers, and had a particular resistance to any form of harm from their own element. On top of that, literally, they had the heads exactly as dragons, with sharp teeth and often horns. Contrary to popular belief, however, they did not have the wings or tails of their heritage.
The Solvolnava, like other mountain-dwelling folk, are a deeply proud and noble race who value honour and loyalty very highly. However, unlike most other mountain races, they value their family and their clan more than anything, even more than their own gods. Because of their history (see below), the Solvolnava are incredibly self-sufficient and self-reliant, wherein the Clan is everything. To them, helping their Clans and communities thrive and improve is the most important thing an individual can do. Thriving cannot happen on an individual level unless the collective thrives first, according to the Dragonborn.
Therefore, they have a powerful honour code, binding them socially in agreement and contract for the betterment of all in their society. One would be safer betraying a Dwarf, as betraying a Dragonborn will lead to not only a grudge but an active enemy set out for your destruction. Despite this, Dragonborn have little difficulty befriending other species, so long as their honour and community are strong.
Origin and History
According to The Dying Birth, the Solvolnava are descendants of the Scared Solwoln, the two Great Dragons who created the Shattered Planes (see Polasenok - The Universal Order). When the Solwoln had first made Udista and before they had welcomed the Astral Realm Beings, they rested on their island for two years. In that time, they made the first dragons.
After Udista's flooding, the dragons flew to the continents and settled in the mountains, closest to the hearts of their creators. There, in their mountain homes, they fashioned a people after themselves, smaller and bipedal, who today are called the Solvolnava, or the Dragonborn. Made to be servants and worshippers to satisfy the dragons' insatiable appetite for love, these creatures were made without tails or wings to limit their powers and prevent them from escaping their servitude to their parents.
In secret, many Solvolnava grouped together and trained their arcane abilities, slowly becoming a fearsome force. These rebellious Solvolnava slowly grew in size and stature, some even being born with vestigial (albeit useless) wings. After a time, they rose up against their dragon lords, killing many in the process, and settling in the Cliffs of Margathra. There they developed a powerful society, focused on collective strength and rejecting any one central authority.
Those Solvolnava who did not join the uprising remain subservient and faithful to their dragon lords, often living deep in mountain caves to serve them. They low status eventually showed in their stature, and they shrank where the freed Dragonborn grew. Today these servants of dragons are called Kobolds.
