Ghosts

Ghost or spirit or soul, whatever one wishes to call them, death can cause a person to leave an imprint on the universe. Much like how all things with Power leave an imprint on the world around them, sometimes emotions can cause an imprint of a person or animal to be left after their body is gone. These imprints are no longer the person they were, they are merely a shadow of it. A remnant.
It can be hatred of a thing that keeps a spirit from moving on to whatever is next as easily as it can be the love of a thing. Whatever it may be that binds them, that thing is Important to them. It is the thing that allows them to exist. If it ceases to exist...the imprint can become tainted and then become something else. Something that the being it was before would never be.

Revenants

Revenants are one of many spirits that can linger after death, bound to something that was important to them in one way or another. They are by far the worst of any corrupted spirit, usually ones that were birthed in pure hatred left behind from the original being...but they can also be an imprint made out of love that went sour. More often than not they are the ghosts who possess others, usually by force but sometimes also through more conniving means if the spirit is capable of communicating. They do not ride their hosts kindly, however, even if they take possession with permission, and usually it is kinder to kill the host even if one manages to banish the spirit riding them. Revenants also usually physically deform or break any host they ride, so any former host may beg for death if they are freed from possession.

Revenant. A spirit still bound by something to this plane of existence and kept here by hatred. Whatever little of the person it once was that remained is consumed by something it hated in life...or even once loved. It has taken possession of that man and made him its new home.

Revenants are also called Death Dealers in that chaos and death is the only thing that comes from their presence in an area. If one has the bad luck to face one, fight or die. There is no other option.
