Westurian Legions

A Legion is the largest military unit in the Westurian Empire. It is made up of 7200 Soldiers that are split up into: Cohorts and Centuria.
The Westurians rely heavily on their large military complex and especially their legions, they take not only the role of defenders and conquerors but also as builders of infrastructure and bringers of civilisation.

Structure

The Legions are split up into twelfe cohorts, which are again split up into six centuria:
One Centuria contains a hundred soldiers.
One cohort has six hundred soldiers.
All twelfe cohorts have 7200 soldiers.
Most of these cohorts are standard protocoll legionary cohorts with a few centuria that serve roles such as scouts or engineers.
Some legions however rely heavily on their auxilarry troops, so much so that they can make up about 50% of the cohorts.

Auxiliary Troops are troops recruited from the local population and are mostly well versed in their own traditional style of fighting.

The Westurian Military uses a very hierchical military system that has the following Ranks:
Zenturio:
Leader of one hundred Legionaries, this position is often given to soldiers that have proven themselves capable on the battlefield. Zenturios recieve better pay than normal Soldiers and gain on ending their military service better accomodations and reparations.
Decurio:
Decurios command one hundred Riders, these are often recruited among young nobles from Westuria. These young riders often try to prove themselves making Decurios often more aggresive than other ranks.
Präfectus:
Präfects are often recruited from Auxilliary troops, these people know their troops better than any Westurian Commander ever could, the only thing that matters is their loyality to the Empire, which is often at debate.
Präfects lead five hundred Auxilliary Troops.
Triibunus:
Tribuns lead one cohort so six hundred soldiers. They are the second highest rank in the legion and have much influence in decisions of tactic and strategy.
Legatus:
A Legat is the leader of a whole Legion, Legats command nine Tribuns and two Präfectus. A Legat is a very infleuntal person, not only in military matters but also in Westurian Politic.
Many times a powerhungry Legat tried to claim the Empire for themselves. Only few succeded however.

Culture

Each Legion has its own history and culture. This often leads to rivalries between legions and sometimes even the senat and the legions.
