Post Possession Stress Disorder

Causes

PPSD usually manifests itself in those who survive possession.

Symptoms

If one survives possession from a demon or fiend they may find themselves suffering nightmares of demonic memories from their possession, eventually evolving into psychoactive episodes and hallucinations.

Treatment

Usually treatment in a temple of the light aligned gods can help heal and rehabilitate those suffering from PPSD

Prognosis

If helped before the condition reaches a critical point the patient may be saved, however if the patients hallucinations and memories become too much they may resort to relief through death.

Sequela

Even after recovering from PPSD a patient may find themselves with an averse fear of demons, fiends or spirits.

Affected Groups

Children and the elderly and most likely to be affected by PPSD, however young people and adults with weak willpowers or dispositions are just as likely to develop PPSD after possession has occured

Prevention

It is assumed only one with a strong will may avoid PPSD after a possession.

History

Possessions of mortals have happened for various reasons and ways for over thousands of years but only in recent times has the condition known as Post Possession Stress Disorder been acknowledged more widely as a mental issue caused by the possession, rather than demonic remnant trying to once again manifest itself.

Cultural Reception

Those with PPSD are usually feared by most who do not understand their condition as still having some form of possession and so are ostracized if their condition is not hidden.   People in Dark Cults may revere those who suffer from PPSD as former vessels of their dark lords.   Those in Holy orders may seek to either eradicate them from the world as a mark of the unholy on humanity, or save them as souls in need of rescue from the darkness that tainted them.
