One Baloth is Too Many
Xander Morningstar finds himself in a poor situation when a smuggled Baloth escapes its captors, threatening to bring havoc to the city. DND offers to find and dispose of the Baloth for Xander, who was barely paying attention but laughing, wishes them good luck and promises a reward if they can do the job before his Fixer, Mishra.
The Dads don't have much in the way of leads, and none of them have ever even seen a Baloth, although Malcys knows enough from his travels that they are very dangerous. They decide to visit Nythin, who, wouldn't you know it, is in the middle of a lecture that involves the creation of the Baloths by the Dragon Tyrant! Speaking to him after class, he suggests to them that if a Baloth got loose, it would have been aboard a ship, and thus the docks are a good starting place.
The Dads investigate the docks, with Leland & Malcys running into the Duergar Weeb Mishra at the Dockmaster's. Meanwhile, Gothta finds a Cephalid contact named Atlus, who, for not a lot of gold, gives Gothta the coordinates of a recently wrecked ship known as the Obsidian Cutlass. Mishra "offers" to "work together" with the crew to take down the Baloth. The Dads charter a boat known as The Crabster King with help from Mutton Chomps of The Wyvern.
Finding the shipwreck a few hundred feet from the shores of the Ailinglesh Wood, the Dads venture ashore, finding a gaudy Sunfish belonging to Mishra. They meet up with Mishra and his associates, only to be cornered by a group of Wood Elves as they follow the trail of havoc left by the Baloth. Calfein is recognized however, and the Elves join them. Also discovered to be listening nearby are Hal'afey and Vicarra, Calfein's mother and older sister. Also discovered was the Baloth, hiding underfoot. The battle was short, but vicious & destructive. Mishra and his associates enlarged themselves and floundered mostly. After the battle, there was some tense but touching(?) family reuniting, including introducing them to Malcys as his boyfriend.
After harvesting Baloth teeth & hide, the Dads Polymorph Mishra into a seahorse, put him in a bucket, and leave him with his associates. THey investigate the wreckage of the Obsidian Cutlass, finding gold, spell scrolls, a handful of magic items, and a mortal nemesis for Calfein in the form of three crabs. They also discover evidence that someone was attempting to release the Baloth and sabotage the mission. A severed Dragonborn arm is found clutching keys.
Returning to Xander, he is caught completely by surprise at their success. As they lay into him about being such an absentee father to Darius, they finally break through to the Tiefling noble. He opens up to them about his troubles with the Maestros, in particular the black Dragonborn known as Varga. Xander agrees to finally return to Respite with Darius.
