Sevaria

Sevaria - the sparkling jewel of Estlund.
Erakz' Guide to Sevaria, 3rd Edition Revised
The Sevarian Unions of the Values and Hills - more commonly known as Sevaria - is one of the major powers in the northern portion of the continent of Estlund. Formed over two centuries ago during the Sevarian War of Unification, Sevaria occupies the land between Reisenhoff in the north, the Aeortian Knightdoms in the south, and the republic of Ocegar to the east.
Sevaria is the primary focus of play in the Fungeons & Flagons campaign.

Structure

As a constitutional monarchy, the head of state and the head of government of Sevaria are two separate posts. The head of state is the king or queen, a hereditary position currently filled by the recently come-of-age Oleander III. The head of government is known as the Speaker, with the position rotating annually among the members of the Council of Lords. The current Speaker, as of Winterwane in 732 Godsmarch, is Baro Kintan, lord of Volsinii.

Territories

Regions of Sevaria

Sevaria consists of six administrative regions of varying sizes. The borders of these regions roughly correspond to the territories held by the pre-union states brought together by the first King Sevaria during the Sevarian War of Unification.

The Crownlands

See Primary Article: The Crownlands
The very heart of Sevaria, the Crownlands, in theory, are those lands ruled over directly by the king. In the past twenty or so years, however, de facto rule over the land has passed to four influential lords who had previously acted as hands of the king in their respective territories. Overall, this shift has allowed far more efficient rule over the sprawling land, allowing local lords to better respond to the needs of their people. The Crownlands is home to a large portion of Sevaria's farmland and produces much of the grain needed to feed the burgeoning nation.

Duruslund

See Primary Article: Duruslund
When speaking of "the hills" in Sevaria's formal title, most people are referring to Duruslund. Rising steadily from the plains of central Sevaria to the foot of the Teileberge, Duruslund is a harsh landscape home to much of Sevaria's forestry and mining industries. The population tends towards smaller villages although a few major cities, including the administration center of Duruskof, do exist as centers of trade.

Escullend

See Primary Article: Escullend
Situated in the southeast of Sevaria, Escullend is the most highly militarized of the nation's territories. This derives from the constant threat from both expansionistic lords from the Aeortian Knightdoms and tribal marauders from the plains of Ocegar who claim to be descended from the hereditary rulers of the land prior to Sevaria's unification. Despite steady conflict, the citizens of Escullend flourish due to the land being perfect for razing herds of animals. Both cows and goats are raised by the people with the occasional farm having far more exotic animals in their stock.

Esteren

See Primary Article: Esteren
Laying along the official trade route into Ocegar, Esteren is the smallest of the Sevarian territories. Yet, despite its size, it is one of the most wealthy owing primarily to taxes and fees collected from imports and exports to Sevaria's neighbour. Additionally, Esteren is also home to one of the largest mining complexes in all of Estlund, extracting prodigious amounts of previous metals and gems from the eastern edges of the Teileberge.

The Silver Vale

See Primary Article: The Silver Vale
To the southwest of Sevaria lies the territory of the Silver Vale. Second only to the production of the Crownlands, the Silver Vale is home to countless farming communities due to extremely fertile plains and river valleys that dot its landscape. Hosting most of Sevaria's coastline, it is also home to most of the nation's port cities and numerous fishing villages. It is also home to the Deepbranch, a wetland region along to the southern coast that is home to many unique species of animals and insects.

Westereach

See Primary Article: Westereach
To the northwest of Sevaria is the province of Westereach. Prior to Sevaria's unification, the region was a tributary of Reisenhoff and tensions are still high between the two nations as to the region's ownership. To the people, there is little difference who rules over them: Westereach is a dull landscape of low hills where it's hard for most to eke out an existence. The region has few natural resources of its own and produces barely enough food to feed its own, relying on imports from both the Crownlands and the Silver Vale to fill its people's stomachs. The one exception is the administration center of Hochauz, a well off port city and home to the Feuerschwanz Academy, one of the world's preeminent arcane academies.

Trade & Transport

Currency of Sevaria

See Primary Article: Currency of Sevaria
Currently, monetary transactions in Sevaria are handled using a coin-based currency consisting of copper, silver, and gold pieces. Additionally, letters of credit and trade bars are used throughout the nation to ease the exchange of large amounts of currency between parties.
