Lord Fafnir the Afflicted

Born as the firstborn scion of his lineage, destined to bear the mantle of leadership, Lord Fafnir's early days were marked by a lordly upbringing and an education that shaped him into a paragon of wisdom and temperance. Despite his youth, he ascended to the throne of Karkavok  with a quiet resolve that belied his age, guided by both his inner convictions and the steady counsel of his trusted advisors. Quickly endearing himself to his subjects, he ruled with a compassionate hand that garnered him widespread adoration.   In the bloom of his reign, he took a wife, Mirin, and their union gifted them with a daughter who they named Lady Sybilla . Yet, fortune soon waned, as a rare and pernicious ailment seized Lord Fafnir in its clutches. The disease marred not only his physical form but also drained his strength, rendering him a frail and disfigured semblance of his former self. Abandoned by his wife in his hour of need, he masked his affliction behind an ornate visage whenever venturing into the public eye, determined to continue his service to his people despite his personal agony.   As the disease's relentless grip tightened, Lord Fafnir found solace and support in his daughter Sybilla, a reflection of his own virtues, possessing a kind heart and the sagacity that had defined his rule. In a departure from dwarven tradition, Lord Fafnir defied societal norms and bestowed upon Sybilla the wisdom of governance, endowing her with a lord's education to ensure the continuity of his legacy. Aware that his days were numbered, he orchestrated a union between Sybilla and Beagan of house Greinmore, a young and promising noble, thus securing her future.   In the twilight of his existence, Lord Fafnir's perseverance gave way, and he returned to the embrace of the Father Maker, releasing him from the torment that had gripped him for so long. Karkavok mourned deeply, shrouding itself in sorrow for nearly a month, as a leader who had guided with both strength and vulnerability passed into the annals of dwarven history. Lord Fafnir has become a symbol of personal sacrifice in service of the one's nation, and is often used as a role model for young dwarves.
