Madame Eva

"The goals you seek will lead you on an unavoidable path with the Lord of Barovia. Sooner or later, you will need to face him." - Madame Eva, AoR 597, speaking to the Saviours of Barovia after the reading of their Tarroka Cards.
Madame Eva was a mysterious figure of Barovia and the leader of the Vistani encampment at Tsar Pool. None truly know Madame Eva's origins, only the fact that she has long surpassed normal life expectancy, making her supernatural in nature. Rumours that she is connected by blood to Strahd Von Zarovich are unfounded, but they circulate around Barovia all the same. In AoR 597, Madame Eva would meet the Saviours of Barovia, sending them on a collision course with Barovia's Vampire Lord.

History

Unknown Origins

The date of Madame Eva's birth is unknown, though she likely appeared at some point during the early years of the Age of Renewal. She has been a part of the Vistani for as long as anyone can remember, and has outlived all other members. By AoR 597, many inhabitants of Barovia estimated Madame Eva to be over at least 300 years, if not older.
Many in Barovia believe Madame Eva to be a member of Strahd's family, perhaps cursed to continue watching over the vampire. This was the case with Baba Lysaga, leading Madame Eva to fall under the same suspicions. Whether or not this is true has never been revealed.

Meeting the Saviours

In AoR 597, the group that would be later known as the Saviours of Barovia, traveled past Tsar Pool while on a trek to Vallaki. They decided to stop for a rest, seeing as the Vistani had a large campsite with much food and drink. While there, the group was bid to speak with Madame Eva, who had been expecting them. Madame Eva had foreseen their arrival, and wished to read the group's fate through a Tarroka Deck.
Madame listened intently to the group, asking about their various goals, hopes and dreams. The group wanted escape from Barovia, and through Madame Eva's card reading, learned the steps towards doing so. Madame Eva would bid farewell to the Saviours, having set them on a path that would lead to the destruction of Strahd.

Post Strahd

Most of the Vistani in Barovia fled from the public eye after the defeat of their vampiric master. However, Madame Eva and the Tsar Pool encampment did not. She had more than earned the respect of Barovia's populace, especially once word of her involvement in Strahd's downfall began to spread. Additionally, the Saviours of Barovia seemed to spare her any ill will, even though she had been allied with some of the group's foes.
