Shiki is a dragonborn woman who has abandoned her family name and assumed the role of caretaker for the cursed Garden of Sinners in the war-torn Iron Marches. Her aloof, enigmatic demeanor hides a fractured psyche and a turbulent past as a failed heir from the faraway lands of Hamura. A skilled supernatural bounty hunter, Shiki now uses her formidable talents to maintain the cursed garden, a grim monument to unjustly slain souls. She is respected by the nearby town of Memorial but keeps all at arm’s length, navigating life with a detached cynicism.

Personal history

Shiki was once the scion of a noble family, but for reasons unknown cast aside her family name after tragedy struck. Shiki abandoned her claim to the family name, retreating from her family to wander the Midlands. She found purpose as a bounty hunter specializing in supernatural threats, earning a reputation for her efficiency and unflinching approach to danger.
Shiki’s path eventually led her to the Garden of Sinners, a cursed graveyard where unjustly slain souls are trapped within willow trees. Taking over as its caretaker from struggling priests of Morinth, Shiki saw the role as fitting penance for her inability to fulfill her family’s legacy. The garden became her refuge and her cage, a place where she could channel her skills while remaining isolated from the world.
Shiki tends to the cursed grounds alone, using her Deathsight and cleansing arts to maintain the fragile balance of the garden. Her presence is a boon to Memorial, but her cold demeanor discourages meaningful connections with others. She refuses to speak of her past or engage in sentimentality, maintaining an air of stoicism even as traces of her true personality occasionally surface.
