Orc
Orcs trace their creation to the one-eyed god Gruumsh, an unstoppable warrior and powerful leader who fought for mortalkind's place in Namtara long ago. The divine qualities of Gruumsh resonate within orcs, granting them a reflection of his toughness and tenacity that can’t be matched. But their lineage has branched from their shared ancestry to Gruumsh; from the druidic communities of Ibanah to the nomads of Dusthallow Peak, orcs have spread throughout Namtara far and wide and is among one of the most numerous of the races of Namtara.
Basic Information
Biological Traits
Orcs are, on average, tall and broad. They have green to gray skin, ears that are sharply pointed, and prominent lower canines that resemble small tusks. Orc youths on some regions or groups are told about their ancestors' great travels and travails. Other Orcs are happy to leave old tales in the past and find their own way.
Like all races, Orcs are capable of harnessing Arcana. There are minor aesthetic differences among the many diasporas; Orcs from rugged, desert terrains of the Frontiers are more clearly tanned whilst Orcs from the Northern Reaches are more pale.
Civilization and Culture
History
Orcs can trace their lineage to Gruumsh, the One-Eyed War God of the Orcs. In that age of ancients, there were no true distinctions on race - mortals were clumped into one category. Gruumsh emerged from that age as a powerful warrior who helped forge a better fate for mortalkind, and was posthumously granted godhood; by then, he had already sired children, but with his ascension Orcs' place in Namtara became fixed. Since then, their lineage splinters into two major groups: traditional and druidic.
Traditional Orcs are the most numerous, and is responsible for the proliferation of Orcs in the world. While they may revere the old traditions and culture built around Gruumsh, many have gone on to carve out their own path. The other group - Druidic Orcs - are a subset of Orcs descended from Orcs who answered Gaia's call west, and has since inhabited the Westward Jungle. They are responsible for the birth of druidcraft through their communion with Gaia, and has since fiercely protected their home for millenias. While they are reclusive and isolationist, Druidic Orcs can be found outside the Westward Jungles as well.
