Human

Short-lived in comparison to dwarves, elves, and dragons, humans have existed for as long as the world. Perhaps it is because of their shorter lives that they strive to achieve as much as they can in the years they are given, and have endured for so long in a quest to entrench themselves in the histories of the world. Or maybe they feel they have something to prove to the elder races, and that's why they build their mighty empires on the foundation of conquest and trade. Whatever drives them, humans are the innovators, the achievers, and the pioneers of the worlds.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Humans vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Their base walking speed is 30 feet. Humans are capable of 60 feet of sight in normal lighting, and the other senses (hearing, smelling etc). Age-wise, humans reach adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century.   Humans are also capable of harnessing Arcana much like other species, and vary from individuals in terms of competence.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Humans can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Humans typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. They are fond of sprinkling their speech with words borrowed from other tongues: Orc curses, Elvish musical expressions, Dwarvish military phrases, and so on.   In different regions, humans may have slightly varied dialects and styles of Common enough to be distinguishable from one another; this is especially apparent when comparing modern Common to Common used throughout history.

History

Humans have existed since long ago, when all of mortalkind lived under the rule of Primal Gods. Since then, they have consistently been among the most common and numerous of all races. They were among the many denizens of Migdal Bavel, the first city of mortalkind. They were the kings, scholars and commoners of the great empires of history. They also charted paths beyond Muria, to the far-flung continents of Meranthia, Helbrandt and Arune.
