Puffwort
Basic Information
Anatomy
Puffwort is either a tall woody plant or a small stalky tree depending on who is doing the classifying. Named for the cream-colored puffs of fiber that crown its stalk, puffwort's natural coloring makes it appear dead and dry to the untrained eye.
Ecology and Habitats
Puffwort towers above most plains plants. Its spindly design allows it to grow in crowded areas without stealing nutrients from the surrounding plants while still receiving the necessary exposure. As a result, puffwort is most commonly found among ground cover plants or dense patches of weeds.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The puffs that protect the reproductive organs of the plant are composed of a simple fiber. The resulting textile is lighter and less sturdy than cotton, but easier grown and harvested. Puffwort cloth is popular with academics, bureaucrats, and other white-collar professions of Odrainga who don't need the durability of cotton in their day-to-day work. Medicinally, puffwort makes a superior dressing for any wound that requires frequent change.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Puffwort is native to the Talsirian Expanse, though is commonly cultivated in farming communities within the Expanse.
