Humans
A people who believe themselves the rightful inheritors of the land they inhabit. Stoic individuals who take pride in their hardiness. Some of their behavioral expectations border on Puritanical, though, and they are very superstitious. Their folklore is taken very seriously by some and playfully by others, but most believe aspects of it to some degree. Almost all believe the creation myth of the gods who walked with the Ancients out of the sky and gave them their land to inhabit.
[The humans who live in the Gifted Land are comparable to early European settlers of the American Atlantic seaboard in lifestyle, though they are of generally mixed Earth races.]

History
Humans came to what would become known as the Gifted Land by interstellar travel, terraformed a rocky planet, and created a settlement there. The settlement was small, and technological know-how was poorly retained across generations. Eventually, Earth's fleet stopped receiving signals from the colony. The colony was abandoned, with the assumption that everyone had perished. After tens of thousands of years, the humans' capacity to create technology wore away until they were left with the equivalent of 17th century European knowledge. Their history had long since passed into myth but they held onto the oral traditions of the story of their origins.
Common Myths and Legends
Spirits are said to possess human bodies and walk amongst the townsfolk. This has been dismissed as merely children's fantasies for a while, but of late more people are believing the tales.
